(GLO) - Through many concrete and practical actions, soldiers in green uniforms have shared the difficulties and helped people in border and coastal areas stabilize their lives. These actions also foster trust and contribute to building a strong foundation of public support.

These days, Ms. Huynh Thi Tinh (born in 1988, residing in Kim Giao Trung residential area, Hoai Nhon Dong ward) feels heartwarming as the house built with the support of officers and soldiers of Tam Quan Nam Border Guard Station is nearing completion.

Ms. Tinh is the wife of Mr. Ha Quoc Phong (born in 1985, from Lam Dong province), one of the eight crew members who went missing while fishing at sea in late September 2025. Previously, she was married and had two sons. Later, she and Mr. Phong married and had two more children. However, their 6-year-old daughter unfortunately has a congenital disability, and their youngest son, 3 years old, has intellectual disability.

Life for her family was quite difficult. Mr. Phong went to sea, and she worked mending fishing nets and collecting scrap metal, earning an unstable income. The entire family of six lived in a dilapidated rented house in the Dieu Quang residential area, Hoai Nhon Dong ward. Since her husband's accident at sea and subsequent disappearance, Ms. Tinh has endured prolonged grief.

Sharing the difficulties faced by Ms. Tinh and her five children, the local authorities mobilized resources to support the construction of a 70 m² single-story house, at a total cost of nearly 180 million VND. The project was implemented by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoai Nhon Dong ward in coordination with the Tam Quan Nam Border Guard Station.

Major Le Huu Minh, Deputy Political Officer of Tam Quan Nam Border Guard Station, said: "Since the beginning of November 2025, when the construction started, the unit has deployed officers and soldiers to participate in transporting materials, digging foundations, and directly constructing the house. Despite facing many difficulties due to storms and floods, the officers and soldiers have remained committed to the project to ensure progress. To date, the house is over 90% complete, with the unit contributing more than 70 days of labor."

Deeply moved by the kindness of the border guards, Ms. Tinh shared: “The soldiers were present from the moment the foundation was laid until the roof was installed, rolling up their sleeves to do everything, big and small. Every time we met, they were kind and encouraging, promising to complete the house soon so we could settle down.”

Along the western border of the province, officers and soldiers of the Ia Mơ Border Guard Post are also joining hands to help the family of Mr. Rơ Mah Choan (born in 1989, in Khôn village, Ia Mơ commune). His family is in extremely difficult circumstances, with three young children, both husband and wife lacking stable employment, and living in a dilapidated house.

Starting with the smallest tasks, the officers and soldiers utilized dry branches in the garden, mobilized the villagers to dig holes, bury stakes, string barbed wire, and erect a fence about 80 meters long; at the same time, they cleared the garden and guided Mr. and Mrs. Choan in planting vegetables and building a cow shed to collect manure for fertilizer. "Now the garden is in order, we don't have to worry about buffaloes and cows destroying it anymore, my wife and I are very happy," Mr. Choan expressed.

Lieutenant Colonel Vu Van Hoang, a community outreach officer at the Ia Mo Border Guard Post, said that each officer and Party member at the post is assigned to be in charge of households, mainly those facing difficulties. Through conversations and understanding their concerns, the officers can provide appropriate support, helping people change their perceptions and creating motivation for economic development and a better life.

These are two of many cases supported by border guard posts throughout the province through the model "Helping one poor household in the border area every week." Colonel Doan Ngoc Bau - Political Commissar of the Provincial Border Guard Command - informed: The model, implemented by the Binh Dinh Provincial Border Guard Command in April 2023, has been upgraded into a project and expanded along the land border after the province's merger.

Over the past three years, the Border Guard has assisted more than 710 poor and near-poor households with nearly 1 billion VND. The Border Guard has visited disadvantaged families, elderly people living alone, and orphans to provide assistance ranging from house repairs, garden cleaning, environmental sanitation, and crop harvesting to donating seedlings and livestock, supporting livelihoods, and guiding them on how to do business.

“That spirit is not only demonstrated through this model but also affirmed through many programs, especially during the recent storms and floods, with many compassionate activities, standing side-by-side with the people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters. That closeness and connection have gradually realized the motto “Listen to what the people say, explain so the people understand, act so the people trust,” contributing to building an increasingly solid “people's support base,” Colonel Bau affirmed.
