Since 2021, Battalion 2 has been selected and deployed by the Command of Brigade 962 to participate in preventing illegal entry and exit and combating the COVID-19 pandemic at Vinh Xuong International Border Gate ( An Giang ) and Thuong Phuoc International Border Gate (Dong Thap). Major Huynh Thanh Tung - Deputy Battalion Commander of Battalion 2 said: “Illegal entry and exit activities are still complex. We always uphold a high sense of responsibility, coordinate with other units, tighten patrols and guard duties, and strictly control the border area, promptly detecting and handling many violations.”

In 2025, the 2nd Battalion's patrol team intercepted a total of 6 incidents involving 12 watercraft and 40 individuals attempting illegal entry and exit; coordinated with the Thuong Phuoc International Border Gate Border Guard Station and provincial police to receive citizens crossing the Thuong Phuoc International Border Gate; and promptly deployed officers, soldiers, vehicles, and equipment to assist people in extinguishing fires and moving belongings and property to safe areas... on November 5th in Vinh Xuong commune.

In the area where the ships anchored on the vast river, the squadron faced numerous difficulties in carrying out its mission, from movement and living arrangements to task execution. The Party Committee and Command of Battalion 2 organized many educational sessions and ideological activities; regularly disseminated orders and strictly implemented documents on combat readiness, maintaining a rigorous guard duty regime. This was a crucial solution to ensure that officers and soldiers upheld a high sense of responsibility and unity in maintaining the river border.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Nhu Phuong, Commander of Battalion 2, shared: “After many months of continuous duty on the Tien River, we deeply understand the honor and responsibility of being assigned this arduous task. I always remind my comrades to be vigilant, ready to fight, and strictly maintain discipline in patrolling and controlling the border; not afraid of difficulties and hardships, overcoming many shortcomings in living conditions, and determined to successfully complete the assigned tasks in all situations.”

Major General Huynh Van Ngon, Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region 9, assessed that in 2025, the fleet of ships of Brigade 962, in coordination with border guard forces, promptly detected and prevented vehicles and people from illegally entering Vietnam. This result is highly commendable, demonstrating the spirit and responsibility of each officer and soldier in overcoming difficulties to successfully complete their nhiệm vụ. “We hope that you will continue to promote and strive to maintain political security, order, and social safety along the border. This is a regular and important political task of Brigade 962, entrusted to the unit by the Command of Military Region 9,” Major General Huynh Van Ngon said.

Major Huynh Thanh Tung stated: “In 2026, we will continue to seriously and effectively carry out combat readiness work; prevent illegal entry and exit at the two international border gates. At the same time, we are determined to be a pioneering unit in safeguarding the nation's border.”

Battalion 2 is a landing transport unit within the 962nd Brigade, comprising two ship companies and a battalion headquarters. The unit is responsible for managing, operating, and utilizing various types of vessels, weapons, and technical equipment; it is tasked with combat readiness training; and it participates in flood and storm prevention, rescue, and relief operations on rivers and along the coast.
