TPO - Completing the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2, Ring Road 4, Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, and the pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River… will be important transportation projects to be started on April 30, 2025.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has just submitted a report to the City People's Committee on the progress of implementing projects to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country on April 30, 2025.

Among them, there are 6 new projects that have commenced construction, including: the completion of Ring Road 2, Ring Road 4, Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, Can Gio Bridge, Can Gio International Transshipment Port, and a pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River.

The Ring Road 2 completion project.

Upon completion, the project will connect the main traffic artery Vo Chi Cong Road with Hanoi Highway, shortening the transportation distance for goods between ports in the East, Northeast, and South of the city (Cat Lai Port, Phu Huu Port). The project is currently budgeted at 4,543 billion VND from the state budget, of which 2,587 billion VND is for construction investment and approximately 1,956 billion VND for land compensation and clearance.

Regarding the progress of the Ring Road 2 – Section 3 project (the section from Pham Van Dong Street to the Go Dua intersection – National Highway 1, Thu Duc City), the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has approved an adjustment to the project completion time to 2026, as a basis for continuing the construction of the project.

The Hanoi People's Council approved the investment plan for the Ring Road 2 – Section 1 (from Phu Huu Bridge to Hanoi Highway) and Section 2 (from Binh Thai to Pham Van Dong) projects at its 13th session. Currently, the investor is preparing the feasibility study report and coordinating land clearance work. The projects are expected to be completed in 2026.

Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 4 Project

The Ring Road 4 project is expected to complete its pre-feasibility study report in the first quarter of 2024 and commence construction in 2025.

The project has a total investment of approximately 105,000 billion VND, of which the construction cost of the main route is estimated at over 47,000 billion VND. The budget will contribute approximately 50% (or possibly more) of this amount, while the remaining 25,000 billion VND will be raised through private investment. Compensation and land clearance costs may be divided among the provinces and cities involved.

Pedestrian bridge over the Saigon River

The architectural design plan for the pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River has been approved in principle by the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and the selection results have been approved by the City People's Committee. Construction is expected to begin on April 30, 2025.

The pedestrian bridge is being built between the Ba Son Bridge and the Saigon River tunnel (on the District 1 side, it's located in the Bach Dang Park area; on the Thu Duc City side, it connects at the Central Square of the Thu Thiem New Urban Area).

The architectural design is inspired by the image of a coconut palm leaf – a characteristic symbol of Southern Vietnam. The project is expected to become one of the new symbols of Ho Chi Minh City, serving residents and tourists visiting for tourism and work.

In addition, the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge and the Can Gio Bridge are also expected to begin construction around April 30, 2025.

The construction of Thu Thiem 4 Bridge aims to connect the Thu Thiem New Urban Area and the Southern New Urban Area of Ho Chi Minh City. This is intended to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce traffic accidents at the Cat Lai ferry terminal.

The Can Gio Bridge project will replace the Binh Khanh ferry, connecting Can Gio island district with the city center and surrounding areas. This will alleviate traffic congestion, reduce traffic accidents, and ensure smooth traffic flow on the Rung Sac road.

Regarding the Can Gio International Transshipment Port Project, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport is currently seeking feedback from relevant ministries, agencies, and units on the project proposal and expects to complete it for submission to the Prime Minister in the first quarter of 2024.
