On the evening of June 23, at the International Convention Center ( Hanoi ), President Vo Van Thuong and his wife Phan Thi Thanh Tam hosted a solemn reception to welcome South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife Kim Keon-hee.
PresidentVo Van Thuong shared that more than 800 years ago, the Ly family of Vietnam settled in and participated in protecting and building the country of Korea. Today, the two countries have become each other's leading important partners, supporting and helping each other for the common development of the two countries.
Recalling the Korean saying "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step", the President said that upgrading the Vietnam-Korea relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership has opened a new journey with a longer-term vision and higher goals.
This visit to Vietnam by the President of the Republic of Korea is of great significance for the journey that Vietnam and the Republic of Korea will take together in the spirit of "good friends, good partners, good in-laws".
According to the President, in the context of rapid and complex developments in the international and regional context, strengthening Vietnam-Korea relations is in line with the aspirations and interests of the people of the two countries, making practical contributions to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and prosperous development in the region and the world.
The President emphasized: "In that spirit, we will join hands and efforts to foster the good relationship between the two countries to further develop." The President wished the Vietnam-Korea strategic partnership to further develop.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol expressed his joy at visiting Vietnam - the first Southeast Asian country he has visited as President.
The President thanked President Vo Van Thuong, his wife and the Vietnamese people for the warm welcome given to the delegation.
The President of South Korea quoted President Ho Chi Minh's saying, "For the benefit of 10 years, plant trees; for the benefit of a hundred years, cultivate people." He said that the saying means training talents and investing in people for the long-term future. The President affirmed that this is also very true in promoting relations between South Korea and Vietnam.
The two countries are deeply connected through people-to-people exchanges, and the people of the two countries will bring the two countries closer together, opening up an even brighter future. "My father, who was an economist, also contributed to people-to-people exchanges between the two countries by sending the first Vietnamese students to study in Korea in 1993, right after the two countries established diplomatic relations," President Yoon Suk-yeol shared.
The President expressed that thanks to the valuable efforts of the two countries' social classes, the friendship and relationship between the two countries have developed to the point where they can become a model for the Southeast Asian region. Two-way trade turnover has increased 175 times, and Korea has become the largest foreign investor in Vietnam.
A large number of Koreans residing in Vietnam and Vietnamese people residing in Korea are important bridges to contribute to bringing the relationship between the two countries to a new height.
"However, we will not be satisfied with the achievements of the past time but will continue to strive to develop the relationship between the two countries to a new level," the President said, adding that he had worked with the highest leaders of Vietnam to discuss plans, develop and expand cooperation between the two countries.
