According to a statement on the official website of the Israeli Parliament, the visit, made at the invitation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Morocco Rachid Talbi El Alami, is "important and groundbreaking". Because this is the first official invitation for a bilateral visit from the President of the National Assembly of a Muslim country in general and the President of the National Assembly of Morocco in particular.
Thus, Mr. Amir Ohana became the first Speaker of Israel's Parliament to visit Morocco and also a Muslim country.

Although the two countries have long-standing relations, they only established full diplomatic relations in 2020, according to the US-brokered Abraham Agreement.
With this agreement, Morocco becomes the fourth Arab country to normalize relations with Israel by 2020, after the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan.

The two leaders of the National Assembly are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further promote the bilateral relationship.
Speaking before the visit, National Assembly Speaker Amir Ohana - who is a Moroccan Jew said: "History is being made before our eyes with the announcement of the strengthening of relations between the two countries, the closeness between the two peoples and the widening of the circle of peace."
