Speaking to the media before training, Brazilian-born striker Nguyen Xuan Son said: "I am very happy to be a part of the Vietnamese national team. You know, playing for a national team is the dream and aspiration of any professional player. And now I am a Vietnamese national team player. I am in Laos, with the best and most in-form players of Vietnamese football. I am being coached by a great coach. Everything is great."

When asked about his ability to integrate with the national team, Xuan Son said: "I've never worn the Vietnamese national team jersey before. But I've played football for 5 years in the V-League. I know many Vietnamese national team players. Many of them are my teammates and friends from the clubs I've played for in the V-League. We talk to each other and exchange many things. One of them is my personal goal and aspiration when joining the Vietnamese national team. I will try to adapt to each training session and each match of the Vietnamese national team. I hope I can contribute to the Vietnamese national team at the 2024 AFF Cup."
