John Terry is accused of having an affair with French model Vanessa Perroncel, the longtime girlfriend (and mother of their child) of his Chelsea and England teammate Wayne Bridge.

The affair broke in late 2009. The consequences were significant, especially when Bridge refused to shake Terry's hand before Chelsea's match against Manchester City in 2010 (his Man City teammates even wore shirts supporting Bridge).

Terry was also temporarily stripped of the England captaincy, and the two never fully reconciled.

Argentinian striker Mauro Icardi began a relationship with model Wanda Nara, who was then the wife of his Sampdoria teammate and close friend Maxi López. López accused Icardi of having an affair with his wife while they were teammates at Sampdoria (and previously at the Barcelona youth academy).

Nara divorced López in 2013, married Icardi in 2014, and they had a child together. López later refused to shake Icardi's hand during matches (known as the "Wanda Derby"), causing a deep rift. Icardi and Nara also later divorced.

Former Arsenal and Germany midfielder Mesut Özil was accused by Christian Lell of having an affair with his girlfriend Melanie Rickinger in 2014. Lell publicly criticized Özil, who was then publicly dating singer Mandy Capristo.

Rickinger initially denied the affair but later admitted to contacting Ozil, and Lell called her a "venomous snake." The incident led to threats of legal action due to leaked messages, but eventually died down.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was accused of having an affair with Caroline Lijnen, the girlfriend of his Belgium and Chelsea teammate Kevin De Bruyne, in 2012. Lijnen later confirmed in an interview that this was "an act of revenge" after De Bruyne cheated on her with her best friend.

The incident caused significant tension in the Belgian national team's relationship for many years. Although the two later reconciled publicly with a hug after the 2023 Champions League match, their relationship has become considerably strained.
