Following the signing of foreign player Joao Mario Nunes Fernandes (Guinea-Bissau) to improve their attacking strength, HAGL has brought in another foreign player to reinforce their defense.
The chosen name is center-back Jairo Rodrigues Peixoto Filho, who once played alongside famous star Neymar Jr. when both were in the youth team of Santos FC (Brazil).
Center-back Jairo is no stranger to the V-League. Last season, the 1992-born foreign player wore the jersey of Khanh Hoa Club, playing 14 matches in the V-League and scoring 3 goals.
Central defender Jairo joins HAGL.
Jairo is highly regarded for his ability to command the defense, his tackling skills, and his knack for scoring when attacking. Coach Kiatisak Senamuang hopes Jairo's arrival will help HAGL strengthen their defense. With the signing of Jairo, HAGL will likely part ways with Pape Diakite, another foreign player who also plays as a center-back.
Jairo has extensive playing experience, having played for numerous teams in various countries. Born in 1992, he rose through the ranks of the Goias youth academy (Brazil), before being selected by Santos for their U.20 team, playing alongside Neymar for two years (2009-2010).
However, Jairo was not selected for the first team like Neymar, but instead embarked on an "adventure" playing for numerous clubs across South America, Europe, and Asia. Jairo has played in Brazil, Portugal, Azerbaijan, Iran, Japan, India, and more.
Although Jairo hasn't made a strong impression with any team, he has a good ability to adapt. This is a key factor for HAGL to rebuild their defense, which has been unstable due to personnel changes in recent seasons.
HAGL had an unsuccessful V-League 2023 season, falling into the relegation battle group. Therefore, coach Kiatisak's players are aiming for a better performance in the 2023-2024 season.
