The nightmare of relegation for Man Utd.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The threat of relegation is no longer a distant prospect for Man Utd. In fact, they are closer to relegation than to securing a Champions League spot.

Last season, manager Ruben Amorim hinted at the possibility of Manchester United being relegated. At the time, many laughed at the Portuguese strategist's statement. However, Manchester United also suffered a humiliating 15th-place finish, their worst ever Premier League position.

This season, Man Utd have spent over £200 million bringing in a host of new players, especially in attack. However, the situation has not improved much. Last night's 0-3 defeat against Man City further cast a dark shadow over the atmosphere at Old Trafford.

They continue to break bad records. Statistically, this is Man Utd's worst start to a Premier League season in 33 years. The last time they only earned 4 points in the opening 4 rounds was in the 1992-93 season, under manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Last season, when the club finished lowest, the Red Devils still managed 6 points and finished 10th.

Now, the nightmare of relegation continues to threaten Man Utd. And this time, no one is as surprised as when manager Amorim first mentioned it. According to Opta's supercomputer analysis, Man Utd's chances of relegation are 10.95%, double their chances of qualifying for the Champions League (4.18%).

Under immense pressure, manager Ruben Amorim has declared he will not change his football philosophy despite the wave of criticism. His win rate is only 26%, the third lowest in the history of Manchester United managers who have managed more than 20 games. Under the Portuguese coach, the Red Devils have also earned the fewest points of any Premier League team (excluding relegation teams).

The Portuguese coach said: “The results speak for themselves. I understand the fans’ disappointment and accept this pressure. But I will not change the way we play. I will do everything for the club, and other decisions are not up to me.”

In the next round, Man Utd face another difficult away game against Chelsea. If they lose again, the Red Devils could easily drop into the relegation zone (Man Utd are only 1 point above it). In that case, manager Amorim is at high risk of being sacked.
