After many consecutive months without rain, around 17:25.3 p.m. on March XNUMX, the first rain of the season appeared in Kon Tum province, cooling down the hot weather during the recent drought. In a situation of prolonged drought, this "golden rain" has quenched the thirst of thousands of hectares of coffee, rice and crops.
Ms. Le Thi Thuong (residing in Dak Pxi commune, Dak Ha district) said that recently, prolonged hot weather has caused trees to wilt. Heat also greatly affects people's daily lives. This afternoon's rain helps reduce the heat and plants are watered.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huy, Director of Kon Tum Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, said that this afternoon rain appeared in Kon Tum City and districts: Dak Ha, Dak Glei, Tu Mo Rong, Dak To, Ngoc Hoi.
According to Mr. Huy, this first rain of the season only helps cool the air and reduce dryness, but cannot "relieve the drought" because of the prolonged hot weather. From now until the end of April, there may be some thunderstorms. Thunderstorms at the beginning of the season often bring extreme weather phenomena.
Therefore, people need to pay attention to lightning, hail and strong winds. Especially from mid-April onwards when thunderstorms appear, people need to be careful of landslides in key areas.
"Drought and water shortage will continue until the end of April. Although there is rain, it does not increase the water level in the rivers, and even causes the underground water level to drop," Mr. Huy said.
According to forecasts of the Kon Tum Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, from January to June, the average temperature in Kon Tum is 1 - 6 degrees Celsius higher than the average for the same period in many years. From January to April, rainfall in Kon Tum is lower than the average for the same period of many years.
Hot weather in Kon Tum province is likely to appear from early March, with drought and water shortages likely in the western and southwestern regions of the province. Heat tends to expand in April and May. Low rain, drought, and water shortage in the dry months of 3 will have a major impact on people's production and daily activities. Water levels and water flow in rivers and streams gradually decrease, remaining at levels lower than average for many years. In particular, the Dak Bla River section flowing through H.Kon Ray and Kon Tum City has a water flow 4 - 5% lower, water level is 2024 - 40 m lower than previous years.
It is forecast that from March to May, drought and water shortages are likely to occur on a large scale in the area. The total estimated crop area at risk of drought and water shortage is over 3 hectares. Of which, the rice area is 5 hectares and coffee is 1.770 hectares.
