On December 21, 2008, at the Singapore National Stadium, striker Nguyen Quang Hai finished off a lightning-fast attack, coolly scoring the only goal that gave the Vietnamese national team a narrow but sufficient victory over the reigning champions Singapore.
That 1-0 victory (the first leg ended in a 0-0 draw at My Dinh Stadium) propelled the Vietnamese national team into the 2008 AFF Cup final, where Hai "Ga" and his teammates, under the guidance of coach Calisto, defeated their rivals Thailand to win the Southeast Asian championship for the first time.
During those historic days, Quang Hai was full of motivation as he prepared to become a father, with his wife Kim Anh pregnant with their first son, who would later be named Nguyen Le Quang Khoi.

After 16 years, when Hai "Ga" (Hai the Rooster) hung up his boots to pursue a coaching career with the Vietnam U.17 national team and is now an assistant to coach Le Huynh Duc at Binh Duong Club, his son Nguyen Le Quang Khoi is beginning to follow in his father's footsteps.
On March 16th, almost coinciding with the preparations for the opening ceremony of the 2nd Vietnam Youth and Student Football Championship - THACO Cup (TNSV THACO Cup 2024), at the Ba Ria stadium, Nguyen Le Quang Khoi scored a brace in the 12th and 18th minutes, opening the way for a 6-2 victory for U.17 Ba Ria - Vung Tau against U.17 Khanh Hoa.
These were situations where the young man, born on April 9, 2009, demonstrated his intelligent off-ball movement, exploiting space to calmly finish and score goals. In the qualifying round of the 2024 U.17 National Championship, the U.17 Ba Ria - Vung Tau team is in Group C with opponents U.17 Khanh Hoa, U.17 Phu Yen, U.17 Ho Chi Minh City, U.17 Binh Phuoc, and U.17 Binh Duong.

Having witnessed Hai "Ga"'s son join the BMG Football Academy and grow day by day, BMG Football Academy CEO Dinh Hong Vinh believes that Hai "Ga"'s eldest son possesses the qualities of a "prodigy," and if developed properly, will have a bright future, following in his father Quang Hai's footsteps.
Mr. Vinh commented: "Quang Khoi has a very confident and skillful playing style, with excellent technique and tactical thinking. Quang Khoi's strength lies in his flexible and skillful ball handling."
"He was born in 2009, so he's only 15 years old, and scoring two goals in the national U.17 tournament is commendable. If he can improve his physical fitness and speed, and especially if he knows how to train hard, Quang Khoi has the potential to become a promising player."
Vietnamese football has its own unique traditions, with families passing down their skills through generations. Let's wait and see if young Nguyen Le Quang Khoi can endure the same rigorous training as his father, Quang Hai, to develop the character to become a professional player and, further, contribute to the national teams.
