Coach Cristiano Roland has just won the 2024 National U.17 Championship with the Hanoi U.17 team. This is considered a historic achievement for the capital's youth academy. Although Hanoi FC is considered the cradle of Vietnamese youth football with many championships in the U.19 and U.21 national championships, they had never won the U.17 title (before 2023).
Among those who contributed significantly to Hanoi U17's victory in the 2024 National U17 Championship was Brazilian coach Cristiano Roland. Following this glorious achievement with his team, he shared: "My goal from the day I took over the team has always been to reach the final and become champions. We had 11 months to prepare and train hard for this tournament. Most importantly, the players understood my coaching style, and I instilled in them a desire to become champions. We are truly happy with this championship, but we must also keep our feet on the ground and immediately think about the next stage."
Hanoi U.17 team wins the national U.17 championship for the first time.
"There's nothing particularly special about the Hanoi U17 team's strength. We built a united team where the players support and help each other. We always treat every match like a final, and we've achieved that. The most important thing is the attitude. On the field, the players need to believe in themselves, believe in the tactics, and have a strong mentality. The six consecutive wins to win the championship are proof that the players maintained their fighting spirit," the Brazilian coach said about the secret to Hanoi U17's victory.
When asked about the possibility of being appointed to lead the senior teams at Hanoi FC, such as the U.19 and U.21 teams, Mr. Roland affirmed: "When I returned to Vietnam from Portugal, I was always ready to take on any position at Hanoi FC, whether it was the U.17, U.19, U.21, or even the first team. However, I have to follow the plan set by the management. Hanoi FC has opened the door and given me the opportunity to showcase my abilities. If I have the chance (to lead the Hanoi FC first team), that would be truly wonderful."
Coach Cristiano Roland is considered suitable to lead the Vietnam U.17 team at this time.
Currently, Cristiano Roland is a strong candidate for the head coach position of the Vietnam U.17 team, following the departure of coach Tran Minh Chien. Roland is considered suitable for the role of "captain" of the Vietnam U.16 team.
Coach Cristiano Roland played for Hanoi FC for many years (from 2008 to 2013), so he has a deep understanding of Vietnamese football. Previously, the Brazilian coach served as an assistant to Mr. Tran Minh Chien in the Vietnam U17 team during the training camp in April 2024. In addition, Coach Roland recently participated in the 2024 National U17 Championship. Therefore, if he were to lead the Vietnam U17 team at this time, Coach Roland would have many advantages in implementing professional tasks, especially in the personnel selection process.
The main focus for the Vietnam U.17 team in the near future is the 2025 AFC U.17 Asian Championship qualifiers, which will take place at the end of October 2024. Vietnam U.17 is in Group I along with Kyrgyzstan (played on October 23), Myanmar (October 25), and Yemen (October 27).
