On August 1st, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of the Quang Ninh Provincial Police issued a warning to the public about sophisticated scams that have recently appeared in the area.
The Quang Ninh Provincial Police are issuing a warning to the public about a scam involving the installation of fake applications with the Ministry of Public Security logo to steal bank OTP codes via text messages.
Specifically, authorities received complaints from citizens in Quang Ninh province alleging that suspects were impersonating police officers to steal money from bank accounts through internet banking transactions. Previously, on July 25th, Ms. LTN (residing in Gieng Day Ward, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh) received a call from someone claiming to be a police officer from Quang Ninh province. The caller threatened and accused Ms. N. of participating in and being an accomplice to a money laundering and drug trafficking ring. The suspect demanded that Ms. LTN disclose her personal information, some details of her work and travel history from March 15th to the present, and the current amount of money in her bank account.
