The accused person provided false information about the loss of his green card to the police in order to obtain a lost certificate from the police, and used this certificate to submit to the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City in order to return to the US.
The Consulate General informed Ben Nghe ward police about the incident and the subject was arrested later.
Falsifying the reason for losing a green card or failing to provide truthful information to a U.S. Consulate or U.S. federal law enforcement officer is a serious offense that may affect the offender's immigration status, the U.S. Consulate General announced.
The U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City advises all permanent residents to take good care of their green cards, keep them in a safe place, and recommends the use of other forms of identification, such as a U.S. driver's license or Vietnamese citizen/national identity card.
The U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City also reminds all applicants wishing to travel to the United States to always present valid and unaltered documents. Applicants who submit falsified documents may be permanently banned from entering the United States.
