The event was held at the Thai Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City. Thai Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Wiraka Moodhitaporn stressed that the event "is not intended to promote Thai cuisine but to demonstrate that preparing Thai dishes at home is entirely possible and actually relatively easy."

Ms. Wiraka added that the menu selected for the Thai cooking tutorial includes Padthai (stir-fried rice noodles), Tom Kha Kai (chicken coconut soup) and tamarind crispy prawns, representing some of the signature flavors of Thai cuisine.
On the first day of the event, about 40 students majoring in culinary and restaurant from Hoa Sen University and some chefs in Ho Chi Minh City participated. On the second day, about 60 people registered to participate, mainly from the diplomatic corps.
The cooking instructions for the above 3 Thai dishes on January 27 are given by Associate Professor Toroong Jarungidanan, a leading expert on Thai cuisine and founder of many famous Thai restaurants in Thailand.
