Performance of William Shakespeare's play 'Macbeth'

Sharing his thoughts on the play, Mr. Tran Trung Hieu, Director of the Hai Phong Drama Troupe, said, "'Macbeth' is the second classical play that the Hai Phong Drama Troupe has staged. Staging classical plays is very challenging. Immediately after receiving approval from the leadership, the team worked meticulously from script editing to art design, costume design, prop design, and casting to ensure the play truly captured the spirit of the performance. The Hai Phong Drama Troupe hopes that 'Macbeth' will lay another 'brick' to bring the Hai Phong public back to the City Theater to enjoy classic works of art."

Meanwhile, actress Huyen Sam, who plays Madame Macbeth, admitted that "Macbeth" is a difficult work, difficult for everyone, therefore requiring actors to invest in researching and understanding the work very thoroughly. Huyen Sam shared that when the Hai Phong Drama Troupe agreed to let her take on this role, she had to put in 200% effort throughout the rehearsal process to perform the work with her colleagues to achieve the best possible results.

The play was warmly received by the public in Hai Phong.

According to Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Hai Phong Department of Culture and Sports , staging classic works is the dream of all major art troupes in the country and the world. From the 1990s onwards, Hai Phong was the "leading light" of spoken drama in the country and had successfully staged a number of classic plays. To continue the achievements of previous generations of artists and actors, as well as to meet the public's demand for high-quality artistic performances, the Hai Phong Department of Culture and Sports advised the city to approve the investment in staging classic works.

In 2023, the Hai Phong Drama Troupe and the Hai Phong City Performing Arts Center (under the Hai Phong Department of Culture and Sports) successfully staged William Shakespeare's "Jomeo and Juliet" and Victor Hugo's opera "Les Misérables." This year, one of the highly anticipated works is William Shakespeare's "Macbeth."

According to the plan, after this premiere, "Macbeth" will continue to be performed for the public at the city's Grand Theatre and in other localities. The play will also be performed in industrial zones in the area to entertain workers.
