Voters appreciate efforts to ensure social security

Reporting on the National Assembly 's petition work in December 2023 and January 2024, Head of the Petition Committee Duong Thanh Binh said that during the 2024 Lunar New Year, voters and people highly appreciated the efforts of all levels, sectors and localities to effectively implement social security policies, taking care of the material and spiritual life of the people, policy families, workers and people in difficult circumstances.

The work of visiting, giving gifts and encouraging by Party, State and local government leaders to policy families, people with revolutionary contributions, social protection beneficiaries, workers and families in difficult circumstances has been carried out effectively and practically, ensuring that people can have a warm and happy Tet holiday.

Voters and people welcome the authorities at all levels for having solutions to ensure adequate goods and control prices to serve people's needs during Tet; cultural activities and festivals are organized in a healthy manner, imbued with national identity, creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere among the people.

In particular, voters highly appreciated the sense of responsibility of the traffic police force in resolutely handling violations of alcohol concentration among drivers, increasing awareness of compliance with laws on road traffic safety...

Voters believe that the work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity has been and continues to be promoted, achieving many important results, many new corruption and negativity cases have been discovered; the synchronous coordination between the Party's inspection and supervision work and the work of inspection, auditing, investigation, prosecution, trial, and execution of sentences for corruption and negativity cases is increasingly tight and effective; linking prevention and combating corruption and negativity with organizational and personnel work, strictly handling violations according to the Party and State's disciplinary regulations and criminal handling; affirming strong determination in the fight against corruption and negativity, bringing confidence to the people.

Voters and people also highly appreciated the results of the 5th Extraordinary Session of the 15th National Assembly. The contents decided by the National Assembly at this Session are of great importance not only for the implementation of the socio -economic development plan for 2024 and the entire term, but also have fundamental, strategic, and long-term significance.

However, voters and people expressed concern about the earthquakes that continued to occur in Kon Tum ; the illegal production, sale and use of fireworks still taking place during the Lunar New Year; traffic order and safety were basically guaranteed but many traffic accidents still occurred during the New Year, killing and injuring many people.

Voters and people are also concerned about many workers losing their jobs, especially those in the wood, textile, footwear, components and electronic product industries, because businesses have no orders while the cost of living increases, affecting the income and life of workers; the socio-economic situation and people's lives continue to face difficulties, purchasing power before, during and after Tet decreases compared to previous years....

Resolutely handle violations to ensure security and order during Tet

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quoc Hung said that during the recent Lunar New Year, the Ministry of Public Security had given early instructions, from afar, and promptly implemented the order of the Minister of Public Security on launching a peak period of attack and suppression of all types of crimes and social evils, ensuring security and order during the Tet holiday.

Thanks to the proactive participation of Party committees, authorities, and armed forces nationwide, with the police force as the core and foundation, the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin was joyful, healthy, safe, and economical. In particular, the police force contributed to ensuring security and order, preventing sudden, unexpected, and serious incidents related to national security and order.

Regarding ensuring traffic order and safety, the authorities have taken drastic measures, working throughout Tet, handling violations without any restricted areas or exceptions, not allowing violations of traffic order and safety, not allowing particularly serious traffic accidents to occur; focusing on handling the main causes of violations and traffic accidents such as alcohol concentration, speed, overcrowding of passengers on passenger buses, etc.

Traffic order and safety during the 7 Lunar New Year holidays were basically ensured. Although the number of traffic accidents increased, the number of deaths and injuries decreased; of which the number of deaths decreased by 69 compared to the Lunar New Year in 2023. According to data from the Ministry of Health, emergency cases related to traffic accidents decreased by 12.1% compared to the previous year, the number of traffic accidents requiring hospitalization decreased by 8.4% and the number of deaths due to traffic accidents in hospitals decreased by 22.4% compared to the same period last year.

The authorities have focused on strictly handling violations of traffic safety and order. During the 7 days of Tet, over 71,000 violations were handled, fines of over 182 billion VND were imposed, and many vehicles were detained, in which violations of alcohol concentration and speed were detected to have increased compared to the previous year. Therefore, traffic safety has been ensured and highly appreciated by the people and public opinion.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quoc Hung also informed that the Ministry of Public Security has proactively focused on directing and doing a good job of preventing and handling violations early and from afar regarding fireworks violations.

Police forces at all levels have deployed propaganda, mobilized people and resolutely fought against violations of firecrackers. The number of cases of detecting and arresting acts of transporting, storing, using firecrackers and dangerous supporting tools has increased compared to last year.

Nationwide, during the 7 days of Tet, 657 cases were discovered and arrested with 697 subjects illegally producing, trading, transporting, storing and using firecrackers, an increase of 166 cases and 160 subjects compared to the same period of last year's Lunar New Year; over 370 kg of various types of firecrackers, 2,161 boxes of firecrackers and 4.7 kg of firecracker powder were seized; over 1,500 kg of various types of firecrackers were recovered, an increase of nearly 1,100 kg compared to last year's Lunar New Year.

“Thanks to that, although fireworks are used a lot, no one takes advantage of this to use fireworks indiscriminately, causing disorder. Localities will arrest and deal with those who take advantage of using fireworks during Tet very resolutely,” Mr. Hung emphasized.

Regarding the issue of traffic accidents, Chairman of the Economic Committee Vu Hong Thanh mentioned that the number of catastrophic accidents on highways during the recent Tet holiday increased significantly.

“It is necessary to make recommendations to clarify the causes of traffic accidents on highways, such as the accident on the Cam Lo - La Son route. On the internet, people reflect that the standards and regulations on highways here have problems. It is necessary to make recommendations to the Government to take immediate measures to handle this problem. It is impossible for highways to have 2 lanes without a hard divider or an emergency lane,” said Mr. Vu Hong Thanh.
