The competition attracted the participation of 100 outstanding students from 24 junior high schools in 7 coastal communes and wards in Quang Ngai province. The contestants competed in four rounds: Setting Sail, Overcoming Waves, Reaching the Shore, and Establishing Sovereignty Markers.
In the first three rounds, the contestants answered 15 multiple-choice questions covering knowledge about Vietnam's seas and islands, laws on maritime sovereignty, and the traditions of the Coast Guard. Each question required 10 seconds for the contestant to think and answer; incorrect answers or exceeding the time limit resulted in elimination from the competition.
The final round, "Setting a Sovereignty Marker," requires the remaining contestants to apply their comprehensive knowledge. The winner is the last contestant standing on the competition floor.
The competition contributes to raising awareness, fostering love for the sea and islands, and instilling a sense of responsibility in protecting national sovereignty among the younger generation.
