Alex Jimenez is involved in a scandal. |
Bournemouth have confirmed they are launching an internal investigation into defender Jimenez after images allegedly showing text messages between the player and a female student circulated on social media.
In an official statement, Bournemouth said they "are fully aware of the seriousness of the matter" and have decided to remove Jimenez from the squad for the match against Fulham at Craven Cottage in the 36th round of the Premier League on May 9th.
"The club is conducting an investigation and will not be making any further comment at this time," Bournemouth stressed.
According to social media posts that appeared on May 7th, the Spanish defender was allegedly chatting with a girl under 18. Some screenshots even showed Jimenez sending photos of himself in a car with sexually suggestive captions.
No official conclusion has been reached yet, but the incident has immediately sent shockwaves through English football because Jimenez is one of Bournemouth's most outstanding players this season.
The 21-year-old defender joined Bournemouth last September on loan from AC Milan with a mandatory buy-out clause.
Earlier this year, that clause was activated, and the southern English club are preparing to complete a deal worth around £15 million in the summer of 2026.
Jimenez came through the Real Madrid academy and was once considered one of the most promising right-backs in Spain. He made his AC Milan debut in January 2024 against Cagliari in the Coppa Italy before moving to the Premier League.
This season, Jimenez has played 32 games for Bournemouth and scored a goal in the 3-2 victory against Liverpool. His consistent performance has helped Bournemouth compete for a European cup spot for the first time in the club's history.
