Exemplary veteran, living a life of love

Participating in the resistance war, dedicating his youth to the independence and freedom of the nation, achieving many glorious feats, upon returning to civilian life, veteran Ngo Van Ba, a typical member of the Phong Hiep Commune Veterans Association, continued to be a pioneer, an exemplary leader in local movements, contributing to the construction of his homeland and wholeheartedly supporting his comrades in difficult times.

Veteran Ngo Van Ba was honored as an outstanding example of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style in 2023.

In 1961, when he had just turned 16, young man Ngo Van Ba left his family and joined the revolution. When the country was victorious, he returned to his hometown to build a new life. In the early days of starting a business, he was still poor, and he and his wife did many jobs to make a living. Having been trained in the military environment, not giving in to any difficulties, he actively worked in production, lived frugally, and owned more than 100 hectares of land for aquaculture. When his children grew up, after dividing the land among them, he left 40 hectares to raise shrimp, crabs, fish, etc. This model brought him a profit of over 300 million VND/year.

Not only striving to enrich his family, as the Vice President of the Veterans Association of Hamlet 2A (Phong Thanh Tay B Commune, former Phuoc Long District), on his motorbike, he travels every day to mobilize members of the Veterans Association and people to participate in clearing bushes, planting trees, ornamental flowers, building sanitary toilets, treating household waste; participating in building new rural areas, advanced new rural areas; transforming economic models... He alone has grown more than 4,000 ornamental plants for members and people to plant on both sides of the road, around the house. In addition, he also called on members of the Veterans Association of the Hamlet to undertake pruning and arranging ornamental plants on Highway 2A, nearly 600 m long, creating a bright - green - clean - beautiful rural landscape.

For soldiers, the comradeship is the most sacred and profound sentiment, even after leaving the army, they always cherish and preserve it. Mr. Ba himself is the same, his heart is always troubled whenever he hears that his comrades are in difficulty. He often helps many members borrow capital without interest, shares techniques in raising livestock and growing crops; encourages members to participate in the movement "War veterans help each other reduce poverty, do good business"... Every year on holidays and Tet, he also spends money and mobilizes donors to support hundreds of rice and necessities for poor households, near-poor households, households in especially difficult circumstances, families with meritorious services, and people with meritorious services.

In particular, in 2024, this veteran veteran also mobilized donors to raise 50 million VND to support Mr. Duong Minh Cau (member of the Veterans Association of Hamlet 9C) to build a "War Veterans' Affection" house, helping Mr. Cau's family have a solid house, no longer worrying during storms.

“In times of difficulty, I can see the true love of my comrades. Having a new house gives me more strength to overcome difficulties. This is a priceless gift for my family, and the love of my comrades that I will forever cherish and remember,” said veteran Duong Minh Cau.

Having experienced the hardships of war, Mr. Ba cherishes every moment of peaceful life. On the wall and in front of the house, he hangs and pastes many sentences to remind, educate and encourage his family and children about life, about love for the homeland and country...

At the age of 80, his health declined, so he resigned from his position as Vice President of the Veterans Association of Hamlet 2A, but he still enthusiastically contributed to public affairs. “I always remember Uncle Ho’s teachings: Whatever is beneficial to the people must be done with all my might, whatever is harmful to the people must be avoided with all my might. I consider that as a guiding principle, as long as I am still healthy, I will try to contribute to the locality, help more members and people in difficulty in the locality, and together contribute to building our homeland to develop more and more,” Mr. Ba shared.
