Veteran Ngo Van Ba was honored as an exemplary figure in studying and following the ideology, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh in 2023.

In 1961, at the age of 16, Ngo Van Ba left his family to join the revolution. After the country's victory, he returned to his hometown to build a new life. In the early days of establishing his livelihood, he and his wife worked various jobs to make ends meet. Having been tempered in the military environment, he was undeterred by difficulties and actively engaged in productive work, living frugally and owning over 100 acres of land for aquaculture. When his children grew up, after dividing the land among them, he kept 40 acres for raising shrimp, crabs, and fish... This model brings him a profit of over 300 million dong per year.

Not only striving to enrich his family, but as the Vice Chairman of the Veterans Association Branch in Hamlet 2A (Phong Thanh Tay B commune, formerly Phuoc Long district), he daily travels on his motorbike to mobilize veteran members and local people to participate in clearing bushes, planting trees and ornamental plants, building sanitary toilets, and handling household waste; participating in building new rural areas and advanced new rural areas; and transforming economic models... He himself has propagated more than 4,000 ornamental plants for members and local people to plant along the roadside and around their houses. In addition, he also called on members of the Veterans Association Branch in the hamlet to take responsibility for pruning and beautifying the ornamental plants along the nearly 600-meter-long Road 2A, creating a bright, green, clean, and beautiful rural landscape.

For soldiers, camaraderie and fellowship are the most sacred and profound feelings, cherished and preserved even after leaving the military. Mr. Bá himself felt the same way; his heart was always troubled whenever he heard of a comrade facing difficulties. He frequently helped many members by providing interest-free loans, sharing livestock and farming techniques, and encouraging members to participate in the "Veterans Helping Each Other Reduce Poverty and Excel in Economic Activities" movement. Every year during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), he also contributed money and mobilized benefactors to provide hundreds of portions of rice and essential goods to poor households, near-poor households, households with particularly difficult circumstances, policy beneficiary families, and those who have rendered meritorious service.

In particular, in 2024, this veteran also mobilized benefactors to raise 50 million VND to support Mr. Duong Minh Cau (a member of the Veterans Association of Hamlet 9C) in building a "Veterans' Solidarity House," helping Mr. Cau's family have a sturdy house and no longer worry whenever there is a storm.

“It is in times of hardship that the true meaning of camaraderie is revealed. Having a new house has given me renewed strength to overcome difficulties. This is a priceless gift for my family, a token of the affection of my comrades and fellow soldiers that I will forever cherish and remember,” veteran Duong Minh Cau expressed.

Having experienced the hardships of the war, Mr. Bá cherishes every moment of peace. On the walls and in front of his house, he hangs and pastes many quotes to remind, educate , and encourage his family and descendants about moral values and love for their homeland and country...

At the age of 80, with declining health, he resigned from his position as Vice Chairman of the Veterans Association in Hamlet 2A, but he remains enthusiastic about contributing to the common good. “I always remember President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings: ‘Whatever benefits the people must be done with all our might, whatever harms the people must be avoided with all our might.’ I consider that my guiding principle. As long as I have my health, I will strive to contribute to the locality, help more members and people in need in the area, and together contribute to building a more prosperous homeland,” Mr. Bá shared.
