Former Arsenal star punched over a girl.

Lucas Torreira was assaulted in Türkiye in an incident that police suspect was premeditated.

Torreira suffered a major shock after being attacked by a man outside a cafe in a shopping mall in the Beyoglu district of Istanbul. According to Turkish media, the Galatasaray midfielder was punched in the face and sustained multiple scratches around his left eye.

Police quickly arrived at the scene and apprehended the suspect as he was attempting to flee in a taxi. The investigation revealed that this was not a spontaneous act.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect had previously posted numerous threatening messages targeting Torreira. Notably, the suspect also had a criminal record and was under a restraining order at the time of the incident.

In his initial statement at the police station, the suspect said he committed the act because a woman he knew through social media also had connections with Torreira.

Torreira was once a highly anticipated player at Arsenal under manager Emery.

According to Maison Magazin , the suspect, referred to as "YY," is believed to have had a long-standing unrequited love for Ipek Birol. He is a close friend of actress Devrim Ozkan. Thanks to Ozkan, Birol was once part of the same group of friends as Lucas Torreira.

This is also the reason why the suspect followed Torreira to the cafe. According to camera footage, the person stood on the stairs waiting for an opportunity to attack the Uruguayan player.

Torreira joined Galatasaray in 2022 after an unsuccessful spell at Arsenal. Under Unai Emery, Torreira was considered a crucial piece in the Gunners' midfield, notable for his fiery playing style and strong fighting spirit.

However, he gradually lost his place after Mikel Arteta took over and went through loan spells at Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina before making a permanent move to Türkiye.
