At the end of 2023, using funds from the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, the Quang Ninh District Farmers' Association, in coordination with Truong Son commune, implemented a goat breeding project for ethnic minority households in Truong Son commune. Accordingly, 13 poor households in Ploang village, Truong Son commune, received support for this livelihood model. Each household received 3 female goats, and 2-3 households received 1 male goat.

According to Nguyen Quang Tuyen, Chairman of the Quang Ninh District Farmers' Association, before distributing the breeding stock, the District Farmers' Association coordinated with the Provincial Center for Vocational Education and Support for Farmers and Women to organize training for households on breeding techniques and disease prevention and treatment for goats; and contracted with commune veterinary officers to provide technical support in caring for and monitoring disease prevention and control in goats. Thanks to proper care and procedures, the goat herds of the households in Ploang village are growing and developing well. Many female goats have given birth, and the total herd size is constantly increasing.

Mr. Ho Van Anh from Ploang village shared: “After receiving guidance from officials on the care process, my family built hygienic and environmentally friendly livestock pens. Besides grazing the goats on natural food, I also supplement their diet with various leaves to ensure they receive sufficient nutrition. The pens are built high, sturdy, and warm enough in winter. With the support of the officials, I have gained more knowledge and techniques in livestock farming. In the future, I will buy more breeding stock to develop a goat breeding model, considering this a sustainable economic development direction for my family.”
Khe Ngang is one of the most disadvantaged hamlets in Truong Xuan commune. Lacking arable land, the ethnic minority people here largely rely on the forest and its products to make a living.
To create livelihoods for ethnic minority people in difficult circumstances and help them escape poverty, the Quang Ninh District Farmers' Association has supported the implementation of a livelihood model for 18 households in Khe Ngang village. Of these, 5 poor households received 7 piglets and 70kg of feed, 6 near-poor households received 6 piglets and 60kg of feed, and 7 newly-escaped-poverty households received 5 piglets and 50kg of feed. To ensure the livestock grow and develop well, in addition to organizing training, the District Farmers' Association also coordinates with other organizations and the Truong Xuan commune government to regularly inspect and provide technical guidance on pig care.
Implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction and the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the period 2021-2025, the Quang Ninh District Farmers' Association has implemented a project to diversify livelihoods and develop poverty reduction models in Van Ninh, Truong Xuan, and Truong Son communes with a total budget of nearly 1.2 billion VND.

According to Nguyen Xuan Viet, head of the Khe Ngang village Farmers' Association, to ensure the model's effectiveness, the association regularly disseminates information and raises awareness among the people about its purpose and significance. Immediately after receiving the piglets and feed, the households prepared their pens, cared for the pigs according to technical guidelines, and focused on maintaining clean pens. In addition to the provided feed, the villagers utilized readily available products and planted vegetables and bananas to feed the pigs. The association regularly inspected, reminded, and guided the households during the breeding process, while also encouraging them to proactively raise their own breeding stock by raising sows. To date, the model has initially yielded high results. The households have maintained and developed the breeding model, with many having restocked for the 5th or 6th breeding season. This is one of the livelihood models suitable to the local people's actual conditions. At the same time, it contributes to "changing the mindset and way of doing things" of ethnic minority people in economic development.

According to Nguyen Quang Tuyen, Chairman of the Quang Ninh District Farmers' Association, in order to achieve sustainable poverty reduction, the District Farmers' Association has coordinated with local authorities to diversify livelihood models suitable to the specific characteristics of each region, helping poor households, near-poor households, and families with difficult circumstances gradually stabilize their lives. This is not only a "support" for the poor to have more opportunities to escape poverty, but the implementation of livelihood models also helps change the mindset and awareness of ethnic minority people in economic development and poverty alleviation. To ensure the continued effective implementation of livelihood models, the Quang Ninh District Farmers' Association will continue to promote propaganda and raise people's awareness of implementing economic development and poverty alleviation models; at the same time, continue to build and replicate livelihood models, contributing to job creation and increased income for people.
