Booking.com has just announced the list of the 10 most popular destinations for domestic tourists during the Lunar New Year holiday. This list is based on searches and bookings from February 8th to 14th, equivalent to the 29th day of the 12th lunar month to the 5th day of the 1st lunar month.
Da Lat is the most booked destination in Vietnam. The city, the capital of Lam Dong province, is located on the Lam Vien plateau at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level. Approximately 300 km from Ho Chi Minh City and boasting a cool climate year-round, Da Lat is an ideal resort destination, offering visitors a respite from the heat of Southern Vietnam.
The next destinations include Nha Trang, Da Nang, Vung Tau, Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City, Mui Ne, Hanoi , Sa Pa, and Hoi An.
Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) is an opportunity for Vietnamese tourists to temporarily escape the hustle and bustle and immerse themselves in the peaceful beauty of the sea. According to Booking's 2024 travel trend forecast from early January, tourists tend to seek destinations with cooler weather to escape the heat. 82% of respondents said that this year they are interested in holidays focused on water-related activities. This demand is reflected in the top 10 most searched domestic destinations for Vietnamese tourists, with 6 coastal locations: Nha Trang, Da Nang, Vung Tau, Phu Quoc, Mui Ne, and Hoi An.
Besides beaches, Vietnamese tourists also flock to bustling cities like Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi – famous for their street vendors selling traditional Tet dishes, the ancient town of Hoi An adorned with thousands of lanterns, or the mountainous region of Sapa with its magnificent terraced rice fields.
