According to observations by reporters from Nhan Dan Newspaper on May 23rd and 24th, as the afternoon progressed, a large number of locals and tourists flocked to Rang Beach to swim. However, despite the large number of swimmers stretching for kilometers, there was no sign of rescue or lifeguard services. Furthermore, the beach lacked warning signs about drowning, rip currents, and buoys marking safe swimming areas.
Notably, this area frequently experiences drowning incidents due to the steep seabed and strong underwater currents, making it easy for sudden sinkholes to occur, leading to exhaustion and drowning when swept away from shore.

According to local residents, tragic drowning incidents occurred at Rang beach in May of 2022, 2024, and 2025. This is especially concerning as it coincides with the summer vacation for students, making similar drowning incidents even more likely.

Mr. Duong Duc Trung, residing in Block 2, Nui Thanh Commune, Da Nang City, said that because the distance from the center of Nui Thanh Commune to Rang Beach is only a little over 5km, he often takes his family to Rang Beach to swim and escape the heat. Although Rang Beach is famous, the swimming area there resembles an unregulated, informal beach.
“Rang Beach is very beautiful, the water is clear blue, and the seafood is fresh and delicious… These are ideal conditions to attract tourists . However, with the problems that have persisted at Rang Beach for many years, it is very difficult to develop tourism, especially regarding safety when swimming here,” Trung shared.

Besides the safety concerns when swimming at Rang Beach, a stretch of beach, approximately 30 meters wide, has been cluttered with stalls and restaurants setting up tables and chairs haphazardly on the sand from the shore to the water's edge. The owners even place their cooking and food preparation areas right on the sand for convenience. In some cases, they even set up kitchens right at the water's edge for cooking. This situation is gradually eroding the beach's inherent value and deterring tourists from returning. Most tourists share concerns about food safety and personal safety when visiting this area.

Ms. Le Thu Ba, from Binh Son commune, Quang Ngai province, shared that in the past, when visiting Rang Beach, most of the businesses of restaurants and eateries were located within the premises of the establishments. But now, returning here, she is truly "shocked" by the sight right on this beautiful beach.
“Businesses selling food and drinks have set up tables and chairs haphazardly, blocking the path down to the beach for swimming. Eating right on the sand is even unsightly. I noticed that most people throw their trash directly onto the sand after eating. If this situation isn't rectified, in a short time there will be serious environmental consequences,” sighed Ms. Ba.

Given the above situation, a reporter from Nhan Dan Newspaper contacted the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nui Thanh Commune to discuss the matter. However, we were unable to reach the head of the Nui Thanh Commune government.

After the merger, Nui Thanh commune covers an area of over 124.7 km² with a population of nearly 69,700 people. Located at the southern gateway of Da Nang city, bordering Quang Ngai province, Nui Thanh commune has an important transportation infrastructure system such as: Ky Ha port, Chu Lai airport, National Highway 1A, North-South railway, North-South expressway, Vo Chi Cong coastal road, and is considered a "miniature Vietnam".
Recently, the commune organized a consultation to finalize the proposal for the establishment of Nui Thanh ward, focusing on developing Nui Thanh ward in line with urban spatial development orientations, expanding the scope of urban management, and improving the quality of local governance in a civilized and modern direction.

In reality, the problems and shortcomings have persisted for many years at a location with great potential for beach tourism like Rang Beach, yet no action has been taken to change or develop it. This further demonstrates the serious concerns of the local government's management and operation. Public opinion is now questioning: Will the many existing problems and shortcomings, such as those at Rang Beach, be definitively resolved once Nui Thanh Commune becomes a ward?
