Da Nang expands its rural clean water supply network.
Da Nang City is expanding its water supply network and investing in infrastructure to increase the percentage of rural households using clean, standard-compliant water to 65% by the end of 2026.

To achieve the above objectives, the city will review and specifically define the scope of rural areas and the number of households as a basis for developing a water supply plan. Simultaneously, it will conduct surveys and compile statistics on the current state of water usage; classifying households that already have access to clean water, households in areas with existing networks but not yet connected, and households in areas without water supply infrastructure.

According to the plan, many water supply projects will be invested in and upgraded with a total estimated cost of approximately 86.85 billion VND, focusing on expanding the network, constructing water supply facilities, and providing equipment support for people in disadvantaged areas.
Alongside infrastructure investment, the city is also stepping up efforts to raise awareness and encourage residents in areas with existing water supply systems to connect to and use clean water; and encouraging households with the means to install RO water purifiers to improve the quality of their drinking water.
The People's Committee of Da Nang City assigns the Department of Agriculture and Environment to take the lead in monitoring and urging the implementation of the plan; relevant departments and agencies will coordinate in implementation according to their assigned functions and tasks. The People's Committees at the commune level are directly responsible for surveying, proposing investments, and mobilizing people to participate in using clean water. In case the set goals are not achieved, the Chairman of the People's Committee at the commune level will be held accountable to the People's Committee of Da Nang City.

According to the Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Environment, the rate of access to clean water in rural areas currently exceeds 60%. Following the merger of the two localities, Da Nang has developed a water supply network for villages such as Ta Lang, Gian Bi, and Nam My in Hai Van ward; resolved difficulties for the two clean water plant projects in Bac Tra My (Tra My commune) and Trung Phuoc (Que Son commune); and prioritized investment in the Phu Thuan water plant with a capacity of 7,000 m3/day to serve the former Dai Loc B region.
Furthermore, according to Mr. Truong Xuan Ty, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang City, the plan for implementing the Disaster Prevention and Irrigation Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 (according to Decision No. 145 dated February 2, 2024 of the Prime Minister) includes projects to regulate water resources and rectify the Quang Hue River; a saltwater intrusion barrier on the Vinh Dien River; and upgrading the An Trach irrigation system (including the An Trach, Thanh Quyt, Bau Nit, and Ha Thanh diversion dams), all funded by the central government.
The Department has requested the City People's Committee to ask the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to transfer the investment responsibilities for these projects to the city for faster implementation. In addition, they are researching investment in projects to prevent saltwater intrusion and preserve freshwater in the lower reaches of the Thu Bon River.
"By implementing the four aforementioned projects simultaneously, the water resources in the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin will be ensured for sustainable use, adapting to climate change, and people will no longer fear saltwater intrusion into their water sources," said Mr. Truong Xuan Ty.
