Mr. Pham Toi, representative of the fishermen on board, said that at about 10:30 p.m. on October 4, fishing vessel BD 83019-TS was in the process of exploiting aquatic resources in the South China Sea area in Lam Dong waters (coordinates 11°03'49"N - 108°56'57"E) and was hit by a cargo ship with an unknown registration number.
Mr. Nguyen Tran Ut (captain) sent a distress signal and called for help from nearby vessels. At about 23:15, fishing boat BV 95869 - TS, led by Mr. Nguyen Van Tao (born in 1989, residing in Chanh Hoa village, Cat Tien commune, Gia Lai province) rescued him. At about 23:50 on October 4, 10 crew members were found, but Mr. Nguyen Tran Ut was not found. After that, Mr. Tao's boat brought the 10 crew members to shore.
Previously, as reported by VNA, on October 4, while operating about 17 nautical miles southeast of Ca Na estuary, fishing boat BD 83019-TS captained by Nguyen Tran Ut was hit by an oil tanker named MS FAVOR traveling in a North-South direction. At that time, there were 11 fishermen on board. The strong collision caused 11 people to die and the boat to sink. Fortunately, a nearby ship rescued 10 people. Captain Ut was missing.
