VnExpressVnExpress06/04/2024

From now until 2030, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City aims to have at least 20 new products from key technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, IoT, etc., and successfully manufacture an AI chip.

The draft framework for the applied artificial intelligence research and technology program at the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City for the period up to 2030 is currently being reviewed by experts and scientists for finalization. The project aims to promote the development of strong, advanced research groups in the field of AI and strengthen interdisciplinary research collaboration.

The Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) has identified AI as one of the core technologies in building creative cities and smart cities, and promoting the development of the digital economy . Furthermore, the curriculum framework aims at technology transfer, building and developing an ecosystem for research, development, and application of artificial intelligence, making AI a key technology for digital transformation. This technology is also seen as a foundation for encouraging startup initiatives and technology transfer to stimulate the development of products, services, and startups.

In addition to training and technology development, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City also aims to have 150 publications in Q1-ranked international journals or prestigious conferences. The university aims to obtain 10 international intellectual property rights, 50 domestic inventions/utility models, 100 software copyrights, and 5 semiconductor integrated circuit layout designs for AI chips.

To achieve the above objectives, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City focuses on building specific datasets for Vietnam used in the field of artificial intelligence, such as population and demographic data; geographical and spatial data; economic, social, environmental, health, and industrial data, etc.

During this phase, the university will form and nurture at least 20 potential research groups in the field of artificial intelligence, including at least 5 strong research groups and 10 interdisciplinary research groups. The strong research groups will focus on developing AI research and applications in fields such as healthcare, smart agriculture, sustainable development, education, public administration, AI generative technology, security and privacy in AI, and fundamental AI research.

Ho Chi Minh City has identified four directions for AI development, one of which is human resources. This has been emphasized by Ho Chi Minh City leaders as needing to be implemented as soon as possible. Currently, the National University of Ho Chi Minh City trains approximately 4,000 students annually in information technology in general and artificial intelligence in particular.
