The 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities in Hanoi is an important political and social event in the lives of ethnic communities in the capital city. The Congress reaffirms the consistent policies of the Party and State on ethnic issues and national unity; it also aims to awaken patriotism, build and strengthen confidence, and create consensus among ethnic minorities on the Party and State's reform policies.
The Congress is tasked with summarizing and accurately evaluating the achievements and results of ethnic affairs work, ethnic policies, infrastructure development, poverty reduction, and new rural construction in ethnic minority and mountainous areas from the 3rd Congress in 2019 to the present. From this, lessons learned will be drawn, and directions, objectives, tasks, and solutions for implementing ethnic affairs work in localities and in Hanoi City for the period 2024-2029 will be developed.
At the press conference, Nguyen Nguyen Quan, Head of the Hanoi City Ethnic Affairs Committee and Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Congress Steering Committee, announced that the Congress, themed "Hanoi's Ethnic Communities: Unity, Innovation, Integration, and Development," is scheduled to take place over two days, November 4-5, 2024, at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labor Cultural Palace. The Congress will welcome 250 official delegates representing ethnic communities in the capital city.
The 4th Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives of Hanoi City in 2024 expresses its belief and determination: to have absolute confidence in the leadership of the Party, to build upon the achievements already made, to overcome all difficulties and challenges, to unite and strive to accelerate the development of ethnic minority and mountainous regions, contributing to building a more prosperous, beautiful, and civilized Hanoi.
At the press conference, representatives from nearly 40 central and Hanoi-based news agencies and media outlets exchanged views, asked questions, and clarified the achievements in implementing ethnic affairs and ethnic policies in Hanoi during the past period. Representatives of the Congress Steering Committee also fully addressed and answered all the discussion points.
Ethnic minority communities in Hanoi are concentrated in 119 villages across 14 communes in 5 districts: Ba Vi, Thach That, Quoc Oai, My Duc, and Chuong My, comprising over 55,000 people, primarily the Muong and Dao ethnic groups, accounting for 51% of the total ethnic minority population in the city. Each ethnic minority group in Hanoi possesses its own customs, traditions, and cultural characteristics, contributing to the diversity and richness of Vietnamese national culture.
