A large number of monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers from Ho Chi Minh City attended the Grand Ceremony.

On the morning of May 31st (the 15th day of the 4th lunar month of the Year of the Horse), at Vietnam National Pagoda, the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Association of Ho Chi Minh City solemnly organized the Great Buddha's Birthday Celebration, Buddhist Calendar 2570 - Gregorian Calendar 2026.

The Venerable Thich Tri Quang, Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; the Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, Vice Supreme Patriarch and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; and the Venerable Thich Vien Minh, Vice Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, graced the Grand Ceremony with their presence.

Leaders representing the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, People's Committee, People's Council, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, representatives from several central and Ho Chi Minh City agencies, venerable Buddhist dignitaries of the Vietnam Buddhist Association and the Ho Chi Minh City Buddhist Association, along with a large number of monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers in Ho Chi Minh City, attended the Grand Ceremony.

At the ceremony, Venerable Thich Vien Minh, Vice-Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, read the message for the Buddha's Birthday Celebration 2570 of the Buddhist calendar from the Venerable Thich Tri Quang, Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha. He emphasized that in 2026, Vietnam will enter a new phase after the reorganization of administrative boundaries, the consolidation of personnel, and the amendment and adoption of several laws, with a determination to develop and progress. When all policies are based on the people and for their benefit, there will be harmony, consensus, and unity, ensuring positive achievements.

The Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha expressed his wish that all venerable monks, nuns, and lay Buddhist members of the Sangha continue to dedicate themselves to service in mindfulness and peace, contributing to the dignity of the Sangha and promoting the beautiful national traditions of Vietnamese Buddhism. He also wished that each Buddhist disciple would be even more enthusiastic in applying the teachings of the Buddha, together lighting the lamp of compassion, so that this light may spread, warm everyone, and make life better.

In his welcoming speech at the Buddha's Birthday celebration, Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, Vice Dharma Chief and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, affirmed that for two thousand years, accompanying the nation, Vietnamese Buddhism has always been integrated into the historical flow of the country, taking the spirit of protecting the nation and ensuring the well-being of the people, and engaging in worldly affairs to save lives as its ideal of service. Throughout all stages of nation-building and national defense, Buddhism has always been the foundation of morality, culture, and spirituality, contributing to the nurturing of the nation's spirit, fostering patriotism, unity, tolerance, and compassion among the Vietnamese people.

Venerable Thich Thien Nhon affirmed that, in continuing the tradition of engaged Buddhism in Vietnam in the new era, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha calls on all monks, nuns, and Buddhists nationwide to continue to uphold the patriotic tradition, live "a good life and a beautiful faith," actively participate in building national unity; and stand alongside the Party and State in the development of the economy, society, culture, environmental protection, digital transformation, social welfare, caring for the people's lives, and safeguarding the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland.

On behalf of the city's leadership, Mr. Tran Van Bay, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, extended his best wishes to all Venerable Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers in the city for a joyful and spiritually fulfilling Vesak season, imbued with national unity; he acknowledged and highly appreciated the Ho Chi Minh City Buddhist Association and its followers for their contributions to the city's socio-economic achievements in the past.

The leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed that the Party and the State always pay attention to and create favorable conditions for all religions, including Buddhism, to practice their faith in accordance with the law and fulfill their civic duties; expressing their hope and belief that Vietnamese Buddhism in Ho Chi Minh City will continue to have many practical activities, serving the faith and helping society, actively contributing together with the Party Committee, the government, and the people of the city in the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland as the nation enters a new era of development.

Earlier, on the occasion of the Buddha's Birthday in the year 2570 of the Buddhist calendar, in Ho Chi Minh City, many delegations of leaders from the Party, State, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and various ministries and departments visited and congratulated the leading religious dignitaries of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; congratulated the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Ho Chi Minh City; and acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha to the cause of national construction and defense.
