Quang Ninh has been focusing on implementing a series of major, fundamental solutions to ensure sustainable food security. Specifically, in recent years, with the advice of the agricultural sector, the province has focused on completing Project 196, effectively implementing the new rural construction program, concretizing Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU (dated May 17, 2021) of the Provincial Party Committee, the OCOP program... Thanks to that, the province has developed strategic transport infrastructure, promoting connectivity from disadvantaged areas to urban centers.
Irrigation works, centralized water supply, electricity infrastructure, telecommunications, trade, natural disaster prevention works... are all focused on investment, helping to improve the efficiency of cultivation, livestock farming, transportation of agricultural materials, and post-harvest agricultural product trading. Or the whole province is maintaining the operation of 133 traditional markets, of which 48 are in rural areas; 333 convenience stores scattered throughout the province... are contributing to ensuring the supply of necessary goods and services to serve the consumption needs of people in rural areas, ethnic minorities, mountainous areas, border areas, and islands.
Quang Ninh also focuses on synchronously implementing many solutions to support production, contributing to promoting sustainable development of agriculture , forestry and fishery. It is worth mentioning that the Department of Agriculture and Environment coordinates with localities to encourage and support the construction and development of production areas according to VietGAP standards. Investigation, estimation and forecasting of the situation of harmful organisms on crops, diseases on livestock... are well implemented, helping to promptly propose preventive measures to the people.
The province also directed strongly to limit the conversion of rice-growing land to other purposes, prioritizing the promotion of land consolidation to facilitate the application of new varieties, processes, technologies, and modern farming equipment... These efforts have contributed to creating positive changes in the thinking and farming methods of thousands of farming households, helping to improve production capacity, especially in ethnic minority, mountainous, border, and island areas.
Up to now, the whole province has formed concentrated commodity production areas on rice, vegetables, and fruit trees, with an area of about 6,400 hectares; about 1,100 hectares of crops maintain production according to good agricultural production processes; nearly 323 hectares of rice, vegetables, fruits, tea, cinnamon... have been granted VietGAP certificates.
From 2020 to now, the province has granted 32 codes for growing areas for export and 17 codes for growing areas for domestic consumption; a total of 63 codes for growing areas have been granted with a total area of over 1,500 hectares, including 46 codes for growing areas for export and 17 codes for growing areas for domestic consumption, and 9 codes for packaging facilities. Along with that, localities have actively coordinated to implement projects approved by the Provincial People's Committee, such as: Developing a chain of key agricultural products at the provincial level for the period 2021-2025; researching and producing varieties to serve the restructuring of the agricultural sector; developing organic agriculture until 2025, with a vision to 2030...
The attention and investment of the province and localities in the development of cultivation and livestock farming not only improves the quality of life of people in rural areas, but also contributes to ensuring stable food security in the area. Along with the initiative in local production, in recent years, Quang Ninh has also strengthened close ties with provinces and cities with large food production such as Thai Binh (now Hung Yen province), Nam Dinh (now Ninh Binh province)... The cooperation program includes a commitment to provide Quang Ninh with enough food in case of unexpected difficulties and natural disasters that may threaten the food security situation of the province.
In the four years of 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, the growth value of Quang Ninh agriculture all reached the set scenario, higher than many previous years. In 2024 alone, despite being heavily affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi), the growth rate of Quang Ninh's agricultural sector in 2024 was still 0.8%, far exceeding expectations. In the total period of 2021 - 2024, the growth rate of the entire agricultural sector reached 3.8%, which is the basis for Quang Ninh to set the growth target of the sector in 2025 at 3.5%. After 7 months of 2025, food output reached nearly 102,000 tons (equal to 100% of the scenario); fresh meat output reached over 48,000 tons (exceeding 0.6% of the scenario); aquatic product output reached nearly 90,000 tons (exceeding 9.3% of the scenario); livestock and poultry output reached more than 5.8 million heads (up 23% over the same period in 2024). |
