Folk dance enriches the spiritual life of the community.

In recent years, folk sports dance has become increasingly popular, attracting participation from many people of diverse ages. It not only helps improve health but also creates joy and strengthens solidarity within the community.

As one of the earliest folk dance clubs in Son La city, since 2018, the Nguyen Vu Shuffle Dance Club has brought together 50 women of various ages who share a passion for this artistic sport , practicing regularly in the mornings or afternoons. Ms. Nguyen Vu Hoai, the club's leader, shared: "The club is divided into basic and advanced groups for practice and performances, fostering connections among members of different generations." The club won a silver medal at the 2024 National Shuffle Dance, Ballroom Dance and Folk Dance Sports Competition; and the A prize at the first Son La Provincial Dance and Folk Dance Festival in 2024.

Originating from the folk art troupe of Dong Hung village, Muoi Noi commune, Thuan Chau district, the "Sisters of the Starfruit Tree" dance group has also embraced the folk dance movement, independently choreographing many fun, lively, and impressive folk dance performances. Ms. Nguyen Thi Linh Chi, the group leader, shared: The dance group has 11 members, all women aged 34-41. Along with performing arts activities showcasing ethnic identity, the group regularly practices new routines, investing in choreography with content, scripts, and themes that convey positive messages and bring joy to everyone.

The folk dance sports movement is increasingly widespread, from cities to rural villages, attracting many participants of all ages. Clubs and dance groups are established on a voluntary basis. Folk dance sports has also become a part of the activities of grassroots performing arts groups, helping to diversify cultural and artistic activities at the local level.

At the end of 2024, the first Son La Provincial Dance and Folk Dance Festival was successfully held with the participation of 46 clubs and over 600 contestants from 8 districts and cities in the province. The participating teams brought to the festival outstanding performances, showcasing meticulous training, elaborate and creative staging, and investment in costumes and visuals that were beautiful and impressive.

Mr. Pham Hong Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism , said: "Dancing and folk dance are fun art forms with a high degree of collective engagement and community focus. They promote health, bring joy, develop physical fitness, and create a beneficial playground for people of all ages, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the people and strengthening national unity."

Following the success of the first Son La Provincial Folk Dance Festival, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism continues to research and advise on organizing activities to encourage the development of folk dance movements in the community, aiming to build a healthy cultural environment and contribute to the preservation of ethnic cultures.
