A convergence of rare cultural resources and hot springs.
Established through the merger of four administrative units – Son Thuy, Doan Ha, Bao Yen communes and Thanh Thuy town – Thanh Thuy commune currently has a natural area of over 31 square kilometers and a population of over 27,500 people. In the early days of the merger, difficulties were inevitable, but thanks to the decisive leadership of the Party committee and government, along with the consensus of the people, all socio -economic activities quickly stabilized. Tourism continues to be identified as one of the key economic sectors.

Thanh Thuy is a land rich in historical and cultural traditions, with a system of 14 historical and cultural relics, including 6 classified at the provincial level. Typical relics such as Dong Quang Pagoda, Son Vi Communal House, Vien Lam Temple Complex, Long Phung Communal House, Thuong Loc Temple - Hung Phuc Pagoda Complex, and La Phu Communal House - Phuong Lam Pagoda Complex are not only spaces for religious activities of the people but also attractive destinations for tourists from all over.
Besides tangible heritage, there is a rich system of intangible cultural heritage such as traditional festivals, the "flower-stealing" festival at La Phu Temple reenacting the legend of Saint Tan Vien Son training troops to fight invaders, and the regularly active Xoan singing and traditional opera clubs. Particularly noteworthy is the over 700-year-old persimmon tree, recognized as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree, further enriching the cultural "sediment" of this land.
However, the greatest advantage that makes Thanh Thuy a popular tourist destination is its rare hot mineral spring, distributed along the Da River with an area of over 300 hectares. The hot spring has a natural temperature ranging from 37 to 54 degrees Celsius and contains many beneficial trace elements, especially the radioactive element radon – which is very rare in Vietnam. This is a crucial foundation for the development of large-scale resorts, health care centers, and physiotherapy facilities.
Along with resort tourism, culinary tourism, rich in the flavors of the midland region, is also a highlight. Specialties made from Da River fish, free-range chicken, cassava cake, pickled cassava leaves, ST25 rice, and OCOP 3-star black bean brown rice tea have become a major draw for tourists whenever they visit Thanh Thuy.
Tourist Tran Thi Giang Huong from Hanoi said: “I often come to Thanh Thuy commune for weekend getaways. Here, I can soak in the hot springs and enjoy dishes that truly reflect the essence of the riverine region. In the evening, I can also enjoy street music performances. I really like this place.”
Aspiration to become a key tourist destination.
Currently, in Thanh Thuy commune, there are 9 businesses and establishments operating effectively in the tourism, resort, entertainment, and ecotourism sectors. Many tourist areas and destinations meet standards equivalent to 3 to 5 stars, notably Ngoc Xanh Island, Lynn Time Thanh Thuy, Bamboo Resort, Tre Nguon Resort, Thanh Lam Resort, etc.
The entire commune has 24 accommodation establishments with over 3,600 rooms, of which more than 3,000 rooms meet 3 to 5-star standards. The system of restaurants, shopping centers, and services for tourists is increasingly完善, gradually meeting the needs of high-quality resort tourists. By September 2025 alone, Thanh Thuy had welcomed approximately 685,000 visitors, generating tourism revenue of over 509 billion VND. It is projected that by the end of 2025, the number of visitors will reach 900,000 with revenue of approximately 670 billion VND – an impressive figure considering the locality has just undergone administrative reorganization. A new highlight in tourism product development is the "Street Music Night - Pedestrian Street" program held every Saturday evening. This modern cultural space has created a clear attraction, contributing to extending the length of stay and increasing spending of tourists.
In its development plan for the period 2026-2030, Thanh Thuy aims to become a key tourist destination in Phu Tho province, developing sustainably based on the efficient exploitation of hot spring resources combined with cultural and ecological tourism and digital transformation. By 2030, the goal is to welcome approximately 1.5 million visitors annually, generating revenue of 1,000 billion VND, and establishing at least 5 distinctive tourism products and 3 inter-regional tourism routes.
In addition, Thanh Thuy is focusing on attracting large projects: an eco-tourism resort villa complex in Bao Yen, a new rural residential area in Dong Vang, a eco-tourism area around Suoi Rong Lake, and a high-end residential and resort complex in the city center... with a total investment of thousands of billions of VND. Infrastructure, urban landscape, public Wi-Fi systems, and digital promotion are also prioritized for synchronized investment.
According to Nguyen Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Thuy commune: "We have determined that tourism development should not only focus on exploiting existing resources but also follow a professional and sustainable approach, applying digital transformation and linking the interests of businesses with the lives of the people. Every citizen is a tourism ambassador, contributing to building the image of Thanh Thuy as a civilized, friendly, and safe place in the hearts of tourists."
With its inherent potential, increasingly improved infrastructure, and strong determination from both the government and the people, Thanh Thuy tourism is facing a new opportunity for breakthrough. From a newly merged area that was initially quite unfamiliar, Thanh Thuy is now gradually transforming, rising to become a bright spot on the map of hot spring and resort tourism in Phu Tho.
