Owning a home has always been a major goal for many families. However, as house prices rise faster than incomes, the housing dilemma forces many to shift from the aspiration of owning a home to the need for stable, long-term rental housing.
The majority of migrant workers still live in small, privately-built rental accommodations. Many of these rooms are cramped, with limited shared living space, and the fire safety infrastructure remains inadequate.
For a young worker who has only been working for a few years, a working couple in an industrial zone, or an office worker with an average income, saving up to buy a house is very difficult.
Meanwhile, living expenses, raising children, education, and healthcare remain monthly priorities for workers. Therefore, developing rental housing needs to become an important component of housing policies.
In Thai Nguyen , in recent years, along with the strong development of industrial zones, the number of workers from many localities coming to work has been increasing.
Around industrial zones, many rows of rental housing are being built rapidly to meet housing needs. Workers have affordable accommodation, but living conditions are generally unstable, especially for those who want to stay long-term or bring their families along.
This reality shows that developing rental housing is not simply about building more apartments, but requires comprehensive planning, essential infrastructure, convenient transportation connections, and accompanying social, healthcare, and educational services at affordable prices so that middle-income earners can access them.
In addition, the State needs strong policies on land, credit, and taxation to incentivize businesses to participate in the development of long-term rental housing, because without appropriate support mechanisms, this market will find it very difficult to develop stably and sustainably.
A developed city is not only measured by the number of high-rise buildings or the percentage of people who own homes, but also by its ability to ensure that workers can live stably and affordably according to their income.
When rental housing is properly integrated into social welfare policies, the pressure to buy a home at all costs will lessen, giving way to a more practical approach that better suits the needs of the majority of workers. What they need first and foremost is a safe, stable, and affordable place to live so they can live, work, and contribute to the overall development of their homeland and country.
