Lao Cai: Vibrant activities during Workers' Month

The 2026 Workers' Month is being actively implemented in localities, units, and businesses throughout the province with many practical activities aimed at union members and workers. Besides material support gifts, this year's Workers' Month also marks an innovation in the organization methods of trade unions at all levels, focusing on workers, strengthening dialogue, listening, and accompanying them from the grassroots level.

With the motto "Each grassroots trade union - One benefit for its members," trade unions at all levels in the province have proactively developed many activities suitable to the realities at the grassroots level. Notably, these programs all focus on directly meeting the practical needs of workers, such as: healthcare, housing support, improving meal allowances, legal advice, and answering questions about regulations and policies for workers.

Focus strongly on the grassroots level, with union members at the center.

One of the highlights of this year's Workers' Month was the "Thank You, Union Members" program organized by the Tran Yen Commune Trade Union. Nearly 140 union members and workers in the area received free health check-ups, with each package valued at over 500,000 VND. The check-ups included: blood pressure and cardiovascular examinations, basic tests, health care advice, and early detection of some common occupational diseases.

This activity demonstrates the trade union's concern for workers – the direct force that creates material wealth and contributes to the development of the enterprise. In the industrial work environment, many workers often have limited opportunities for comprehensive health check-ups due to time constraints and costs. Therefore, organizing health check-ups right at the enterprise has made it easier for workers to monitor their own health status.

Ms. Hoang Thi Lu, a union member of Yamazaki Co., Ltd. in Hung Khanh commune, shared: “Having health check-ups like this helps union members and workers monitor their own health status and raise awareness about regular health care, preventing occupational diseases, and ensuring safer and more efficient working and production conditions.”

The Tran Yen commune trade union currently manages 24 grassroots trade unions with nearly 1,300 members. During this year's Workers' Month, the unit has implemented many activities to care for and protect the rights of its members.

Besides supporting health check-ups, the trade union also provides support for building "Trade Union Shelters" worth 50 million VND for members with difficult housing situations; organizes visits and gifts for members who are sick, ill, or affected by natural disasters and floods; and simultaneously disseminates information and provides advice on social insurance, health insurance, unemployment insurance, and workers' rights as stipulated by law. This concern from the trade union organization serves as encouragement for workers to strive for a better life, continue to be committed to their work and the enterprise.

Mr. Vi Viet Trung, Chairman of the Trade Union of Tran Yen Commune, said: “During this year's Workers' Month, the commune's Trade Union organized the "Trade Union Meal" program at 4 grassroots trade unions, with 320 union members participating; and presented 70 gifts worth 35 million VND to union members in difficult circumstances. In addition, 12 affiliated grassroots trade unions also organized many meaningful activities to care for nearly 700 union members and workers.”

Dialogue, problem-solving, and working alongside workers.

A highlight of this year's Workers' Month was the "May Dialogue" program, which attracted the participation of many commune and ward trade unions and 250 grassroots trade unions.

During these dialogues, trade unions and businesses listened to the concerns and aspirations of union members and workers, thereby promptly identifying and resolving emerging issues; at the same time, they received and answered hundreds of opinions and suggestions related to employment, wages, social insurance, social housing, working conditions, occupational safety and health, and policies and regulations for workers.

Through direct dialogues, the Cam Duong Ward Trade Union has promptly addressed many difficulties and problems faced by its members and workers.

At the Cam Duong Ward Trade Union, a dialogue program was organized with the theme: "Dialogue, listening, and showing gratitude to workers," attracting the participation of nearly 100 trade union officials, members, and workers from 43 affiliated grassroots trade unions.

With a spirit of frankness, openness, and responsibility, every question from union members and workers was promptly answered; at the same time, additional necessary information was provided to help union members better understand current regulations and policies, and feel secure in their work, labor, and production.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, Chairwoman of the Cam Duong Ward Trade Union, added: “In addition to addressing workers' requests, the ward's Trade Union also coordinated with the ward police to promote legal awareness campaigns on drug prevention, illegal lending, and fire prevention; and at the same time, presented 20 gifts to support union members in difficult circumstances and commended and rewarded collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in labor, work, and trade union activities.”

Spreading care and concern for union members and workers.

The vibrant atmosphere of Workers' Month continues to spread across many businesses through the "Trade Union Meal Program". To date, grassroots trade unions throughout the province have organized 143 programs, providing support ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 VND per meal. Many businesses have proactively improved the quality of meals, providing additional meals for workers in arduous, hazardous, and hot working environments.

Although the monetary value may not be significant, union meals carry practical meaning. They represent sharing and the affection that the union organization has for workers after long hours of hard work. Through such activities, the relationship between the enterprise, the union organization, and the workers becomes closer and stronger.

In addition , trade union branches at all levels organized visits to more than 150 union members and workers in difficult circumstances, suffering from serious illnesses, or who had work-related accidents, with a total amount of nearly 100 million VND; actively coordinated with commune-level police forces and enterprises to promote the dissemination of legal knowledge on drug prevention; and raised awareness among workers about the harmful effects of drugs and their responsibility in building drug-free enterprises.

Alongside activities focused on improving living conditions, cultural and sports activities are also widely organized, creating a vibrant competitive atmosphere among workers and contributing to strengthening the bond between union members, workers, the trade union organization, and the enterprise.

Many practical activities will be organized for union members and workers during Workers' Month in 2026.

With flexible and creative approaches tailored to the specific conditions of each unit and enterprise, the 2026 Workers' Month has been spreading widely and leaving a clear mark on the lives of union members and workers. These practical and meaningful activities not only demonstrate the concern and support of the trade union organization but also provide further motivation for workers to feel secure in their work and production, remain committed to their businesses, and contribute to the overall development of the locality.
