Previously, to irrigate more than 5 sao of sweet potatoes, Mr. Duong Nhi's family in Minh Tan Bac village, Mo Cay commune had to spend a lot of effort because they had to water manually. Now, thanks to the application of an automatic irrigation system, Mr. Nhi saves costs, reduces labor and has higher productivity. Mr. Nhi shared: " A few years ago, I also did it but did little because I could not water by hand, and the straw was also hard to dry. Now, I buy the straw, I find the straw and I do it, and when I'm done, I have a plow and harrow it all, which is easier for me. If I did it by hand, I could not do it, but now it's easier, with electricity it's easier, applying technology here also reduces my labor."
Not only changing the way of doing things, people also boldly restored endemic crops, formed joint groups, and increased income. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khoa - Secretary of Minh Tan Bac village Party Cell said that thanks to the connection and joint change in production thinking, many households have had a more stable source of income: " Previously , for native plants such as cassava, taro, cassava, people mainly focused on other types, but now we, together with the people, have restored and built joint groups for production, which has brought about efficiency. In particular, the characteristic of our land is sandy land with a lack of water, so the application of science and technology, not only in terms of varieties but also in implementing automatic sprinkler irrigation technology, has contributed to solving the problem of drought; at the same time, it increases productivity very high, helping to increase people's income".
In Mang Den, agriculture is transforming towards organic and high-tech applications, with the goal of creating agricultural products with productivity, quality, and safety for consumers' health. From planting, caring, harvesting to connecting to the market, information technology and automation have gradually replaced manual methods, helping farmers become "smart farmers" in the digital age.
Digital technology not only improves production efficiency and expands consumption channels, but also makes all processes transparent. Grasping that trend, the Vegetable and Flower - Tourism and Youth Cooperative of Mang Den Commune has built a closed production process, fully applying information technology. According to Ms. Tran Ngoc Diep, Director of the Vegetable and Flower - Tourism and Youth Cooperative of Mang Den Commune, Quang Ngai Province, with just a phone installed with field management software, all data from sowing time, number of waterings, fertilizations to pest and disease situations are recorded and continuously updated, creating a modern, transparent and sustainable production foundation.
“ Everything we need to record and store is in the software. And the manager can use that software to do all their work. For example, assigning work, viewing workers' reports, calculating output, where customers come from and what the revenue is, and what the pest situation is like, we can have the information on the apps. And that digitalization has helped us reduce a lot of human resources and time. In particular, we are now distributing to about 40 large and small supermarkets in the city. Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang but we only need 1 administrator but that person can manage all 4 gardens at the same time. And when orders come, only 1 person is needed to handle them all . Ms. Diep said.
Identifying agriculture and rural areas as key tasks, localities in the province have planned concentrated production areas, built large-scale fields, invested in irrigation and transportation infrastructure, and promoted linkages in agricultural product consumption. One of the highlights is the OCOP Program. The whole province currently has 642 recognized products, of which 2 products have achieved 5-star standards at the central level: Ly Son Garlic and Quang Ngai Malt. After participating in OCOP, the economic value of Tra Bong cinnamon products has also increased significantly, opening up a new direction for mountainous agricultural products.
Mr. Do Khac Phi, Vice Chairman of Tra Bong Commune People's Committee said: “ Since cinnamon products were recognized as OCOP products, the value of cinnamon products has increased significantly. From OCOP products, we have processed many products from cinnamon, so the value of cinnamon products on the market is very popular both domestically and internationally, contributing to increasing the value of cinnamon products.”
During the last term, the value of agricultural, forestry and fishery production in the whole province is estimated at over 31 trillion VND, an average increase of 4.7%/year. Up to now, Quang Ngai has had 45 communes meeting new rural standards; the countryside is increasingly spacious, bright - green - clean - beautiful. Mr. Nguyen Duc Binh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Ngai province said: “ During the last term, the agricultural sector alone has achieved positive results. For example, in the field of cultivation, through the application of science and technology, new crops have been created, forming concentrated agricultural production areas; including a number of key products such as coffee, macadamia, and Ngoc Linh ginseng. Thereby, creating high production values, improving the lives of people with high and stable incomes".
Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, in Luong Nong Nam village, Mo Cay commune, expressed: “Life has changed a lot, from infrastructure to production techniques. People are excited and believe in the changes in their homeland.”
In the coming term, Quang Ngai will orient itself towards developing organic agriculture, green transformation, linking production with the digital economy and building advanced, exemplary new rural areas. Quang Ngai agriculture and rural areas are transforming strongly, creating a solid foundation for a new stage of development, bringing confidence and motivation for the homeland to rise up to become rich, beautiful and civilized.
