In the historic atmosphere of May, leading up to the anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19, 1890), the Ho Chi Minh Presidential Palace Historical Site becomes even more sacred, as it was the place where he lived and worked for the last 15 years of his life (from December 1954 to September 2, 1969). It is also the place he was most closely associated with during his life and career.

The Ho Chi Minh Presidential Palace Historical Site is the only historical site in the country that has been preserved relatively intact, including architectural structures and environmental landscapes, on an area of over 14.7 hectares. The classified area covers more than 22,000 square meters and includes 13 historical buildings: House 54, the Stilt House, the Politburo Meeting Room, House 67, Kitchen A, Kitchen B, the Decree Signing House, the Presidential Palace... and other outdoor historical sites such as the fish pond, the Presidential Palace flower trellis, the mango tree-lined road, the Truong Son road… along with more than 1000 documents and artifacts associated with the historical buildings; and 3 national treasures: the automobiles that once served President Ho Chi Minh.

The quiet but responsible work in President Ho's garden.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, Deputy Head of the Department of Preservation and Environment of Historical Sites, shared about the work of caring for the landscape and environment, especially the "historical trees," stating that the work of those involved in environmental preservation at the historical site begins around 5 a.m.

The first task is to sweep and clean the entire system of pathways and gardens to ensure a clean landscape before welcoming visitors. Once the space is ready, the staff continues to care for the fruit trees, flowering plants, and ornamental trees in the area. When visitors begin to arrive, they quietly step back and continue their work tending to the gardens, keeping the entire landscape green, clean, and beautiful.

"Being associated with the place where President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked for 15 years is not just a job, but also an honor and a source of pride. Directly caring for the 'historical trees' associated with President Ho Chi Minh always brings me and my colleagues a lot of emotion. Therefore, we all work with the highest sense of responsibility, dedicating our hearts and efforts to ensuring that the garden always remains green and healthy, worthy of the historical value of the historical site," Ms. Ha expressed.

However, over time, the conservation efforts of the orchard have also faced numerous challenges. Most of the trees in the area are old and their growth is declining. To maintain their vibrancy and stable development, the staff has had to apply many new techniques in their care.

In particular, trees associated with President Ho Chi Minh are always given the highest priority for protection. A prime example is the sapodilla tree that President Ho Chi Minh planted – which has grown for many years and is now entering its aging stage. To maintain the tree's life, in addition to fertilizing and watering at the roots, staff also apply foliar fertilizers. Daily monitoring of pests and diseases is carried out to promptly detect signs such as stem borers and fungal diseases for immediate treatment. Regular pruning of old and diseased branches is also performed to limit spread and ensure the tree's stable growth.

Besides time constraints, the pressure from the large number of visitors each day also poses a significant challenge to environmental protection efforts. To maintain a clean and beautiful landscape, the unit must assign personnel to conduct regular inspections, promptly detecting and addressing any emerging issues. From maintaining the cleanliness of pathways to handling branches, leaves, and trees when incidents occur, everything is done immediately to avoid affecting the landscape and the visitor experience.

Amidst that quiet rhythm of life, those working in environmental conservation continue their work diligently day after day, contributing to preserving the greenery and tranquility of a space rich in historical value.

Promoting digitalization in the preservation, conservation, and promotion of the value of historical relics.

Ms. Tran Thi Tham, Head of the Propaganda and Education Department of the Ho Chi Minh Presidential Palace Historical Site, said that in the context of the ongoing digital transformation, the Ho Chi Minh Presidential Palace Historical Site is researching and gradually implementing solutions to apply technology in the exhibition and propaganda work about President Ho Chi Minh.

While guided tours were previously primarily conducted in person on-site, the Historical Site will, in the future, promote digitalization and integrate modern technologies such as virtual reality to create more intuitive, vivid, and interactive experiences for visitors.

The goal is not only to refresh the approach but also to make the values of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style more accessible and relatable to all generations, especially the younger generation in today's digital age.

However, according to Ms. Tham, for the image of President Ho Chi Minh to truly "live" in the hearts of the public, the most important thing is not just the artifacts or the exhibition space, but the way the story and emotions are conveyed to the viewers.

"Simple artifacts like the stilt house, the rubber sandals, or the clothes only truly become meaningful when viewers perceive behind them a great personality, a simple lifestyle, and a lifelong spirit of dedication to the people and the nation of Uncle Ho."

Therefore, the interpretive and educational work at the Ho Chi Minh Presidential Palace Historical Site always aims to tell authentic, relatable, and emotionally rich stories so that viewers not only "listen" or "watch" but also empathize and reflect.

However, the biggest challenge for us is how to convey the depth of thought, personality, and spiritual values of President Ho Chi Minh through artifacts and spaces that are inherently simple. Because what makes Uncle Ho great doesn't lie in grandeur or ostentation, but rather in the simplest things in his daily life.

Therefore, simply presenting artifacts in a purely informative way would make it difficult to evoke emotions and create a connection with viewers. Instead, the task of guided tours is to transform each artifact and each space at the Ho Chi Minh Presidential Palace Historical Site into a story with depth, so that the public can naturally and authentically perceive Ho Chi Minh's thoughts, ethics, and style," emphasized Ms. Tran Thi Tham.

At the same time, in the current context, balancing traditional values with modern display methods is also a very important requirement, in order to both preserve the solemnity and authenticity of the relics and create a sense of closeness and attractiveness for the public, especially the younger generation.
