(Chinhphu.vn) - The Ministry of Health, in coordination with the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, recently organized the launching ceremony for the 2026 Action Month for Children with the theme "Happy, safe, and confident children in the digital age".

The program was attended by Comrade Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The 2026 Children's Action Month is being held in the context of Vietnam entering a period of strong digital transformation, with the goal of promoting a safe, healthy, and friendly living environment so that all children can develop comprehensively in terms of physical, mental, intellectual, and digital skills.

The urgent need to protect children in the online environment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan emphasized that children are the happiness of every family and the future of the country; investing in children is investing in the rapid and sustainable development of the nation.

Over the years, the Party and the State have always paid special attention to the care, education , and protection of children; many programs and policies have been effectively implemented, creating better conditions for children to study, receive healthcare, and develop comprehensively.

The Vice President highly appreciated the theme of this year's Action Month, emphasizing the urgent need to protect children in the online environment, while equipping children with digital knowledge and skills, and self-protection skills against cyber threats such as online bullying, fraud, harmful content, and online abuse.

The Vice President urged ministries, departments, localities, families, schools, and the entire society to continue taking more decisive and practical actions to ensure that all children live safely, happily, and thrive in the digital age.

3 important priorities for children

Also at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Tri Thuc called on ministries, sectors, localities and the entire society to increase investment in children; promote communication on digital skills; prevent violence, abuse and drowning among children; and strongly mobilize the participation of the community, businesses and domestic and foreign organizations for Vietnamese children.

On the part of international organizations, Ms. Silvia Danailov, Head of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Vietnam, highly appreciated Vietnam's pioneering role in promoting children's rights globally, especially in protecting children in the digital environment.

According to UNICEF representatives, nearly 9 out of 10 Vietnamese children aged 12-17 are using the internet, opening up many opportunities for learning, creativity, and connection, but also bringing with them risks such as cyberbullying, misuse of personal data, exploitation, and sexual abuse in the online environment.

UNICEF emphasizes three key priorities: placing children at the center of solutions; promoting whole-society collaboration in protecting children online; and building a safe and supportive digital environment where children are both protected and empowered to develop.

This organization is committed to continuing to work alongside the Vietnamese Government and partners to build a safer digital future for all children.

Within the framework of the 2026 Action Month for Children, many practical activities will be implemented nationwide, such as: raising awareness about child protection through communication; promoting digital skills and online safety for children; supporting children in special circumstances; strengthening prevention and control of accidents, injuries, drowning, and violence and abuse against children; and mobilizing social resources to care for children in disadvantaged areas, remote areas, border regions, and islands.

Through the 2026 Action Month for Children, the Ministry of Health calls on all levels, sectors, families, schools, businesses, and the entire society to join hands in taking action for children through specific and practical actions, ensuring that all Vietnamese children live in a safe and healthy environment, are protected, cared for, and develop comprehensively in the digital age.
