The unique values of Hoi An, Vietnam's heritage site have perhaps never ceased to be a hot topic in international media. Not only is it considered the safest destination in the world for solo travelers , but Hoi An is also regarded for its incredibly affordable and reasonable costs.

The safest travel destination in the world.

Located on the northern bank of the Thu Bon River, Hoi An is an ancient town in Quang Nam province, more than 30 km from Da Nang and 122 km from Hue. Hoi An evokes fond memories in visitors with its rows of ancient houses in turmeric yellow, the river shimmering with lanterns at night, and delicious, affordable food.

A study by Smoky Mountains magazine has identified the safest places in the world for solo travelers, with the ancient and tranquil Hoi An topping the list. In Hoi An, not only is the crime rate for solo travelers the lowest, but it also boasts cool weather, affordable prices, and unique traditional experiences.

Besides Hoi An, other safe destinations for solo travelers include Kyoto (Japan), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Madeira (Portugal), Queenstown (New Zealand), etc.

Experts predict that the trend of solo travel will explode this year. According to Google data, searches for the phrase "solo travel" have increased by 761% recently. This trend emerged and boomed since the global pandemic broke out.

This has been demonstrated by many travel companies through reports of a surge in bookings from solo travelers. Solo trips are being initiated by groups of older, married women who want to go out and explore the world and do so without their spouses.

The world's cheapest popular travel destination.

The Post Office, a leading UK financial firm, has just released its Global Holiday Cost Index, identifying Hoi An as the world's cheapest long-distance travel destination in 2024. Last year, Hoi An ranked 6th. In the 18 years the ranking has been published, 2024 marks the first time Hoi An has topped the list.

Other destinations include Cape Town and Kenya, ranking 2nd and 3rd respectively. Tamarindo, Costa Rica is the most expensive travel destination in the world, ranking 40th; New York, USA, ranks 39th.

Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has a basic spending cost of £51.18 (over 1.5 million VND). In Cape Town, this figure is £54.35 (over 1.6 million VND) and in Kenya it is £54.39 (over 1.6 million VND). Meanwhile, tourists would have to spend £158 (over 5 million VND) on similar items in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.

The Global Vacation Cost Index is an annual event published for the past 18 years, featuring 40 global vacation destinations ranked from cheapest to most expensive. The list is selected and ranked based on the cost of eight essential vacation items such as: a beer, a three-course meal, dinner, insect repellent, and sunscreen.

Notably, this year's cost breakdown shows that the prices of meals, drinks, and other tourist items have decreased significantly compared to 2023 in 25 out of the 40 destinations and cities in the ranking. This announcement also provides practical guidance for travelers planning vacations in 2024, especially given the continuing sluggish global economy.

When visiting Hoi An, if the Japanese Bridge is an unmissable symbol, then the "Hoi An Memories Show" is an outdoor art performance about the history, culture, and identity of Hoi An, the soul of this unique cultural heritage that visitors should definitely experience.

Having recently joined UNESCO's Global Creative Cities Network, Hoi An has been ranked among the top 7 most trending destinations in the world for 2024, thanks to its efforts in preserving and developing traditional culture.

Held on the Island of Memories in Hoi An (200 Nguyen Tri Phuong Street, Hoi An City), the show has received glowing reviews from many prestigious international newspapers such as Reuters for its uniqueness and impressive scale. Notably, the live performance has also been recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization (Guinness) as the "largest outdoor stage in Vietnam" and the "daily art performance with the largest number of performers in the world".

Yesterday afternoon (March 25th), Booking.com, the world's leading travel app, also announced the top 10 destinations in Vietnam that are most popular with Asia-Pacific tourists in the first quarter of 2024.

Hoi An made the list alongside destinations such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hanoi, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Vung Tau, Phu Quoc, Hue, and Mui Ne.

The time frame for travelers searching for destinations was from January 1st to March 31st. Participants in the survey were 18 years of age or older and were responsible for making or planning their own trips.
