The online contest "Green Journey for a Green Future," launched on Facebook by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Hanoi in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Tay Ho District, ran from May 20th to June 1st, aiming to celebrate environmentally friendly lifestyles and environmental protection initiatives.

Following the competition, the organizing committee awarded four prizes to the four best entries: 1st prize for the Green Idea; 2nd prize for the Green Idea; 1 Green Journey prize; and 1 Green Future prize.

Speaking at the event, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Vietnam, Mr. Mohammed Ismaeil Dahlwy, stated that the world is currently facing unprecedented environmental challenges. Not immune to this, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, also vulnerable to climate change, is currently facing a number of environmental issues.

Recognizing this urgent situation, Saudi Arabia has focused on environmental protection and committed to promoting the global fight against climate change.

In his speech, Mohammed Ismaeil Dahlwy shared information about the country's ongoing development and implementation of a circular carbon economy, as well as discussing the Saudi Arabia Green Initiative, the Middle East Green Initiative, and the construction of power transmission lines connecting to countries in the region and Europe, and the mega-project in Riyadh, King Salman Park, aimed at improving the quality of life in the city.

Ambassador Dahlwy stated that, like Saudi Arabia, Vietnam faces risks from climate change with many environmental problems, and he expressed his appreciation for Vietnam's determination and decisive actions in promoting environmental protection.

The campaign to plant 1 billion trees nationwide between 2021 and 2025, launched by the Vietnamese government, is similar to the plan to increase vegetation cover within the framework of Saudi Arabia's Green Initiative.

"This campaign by Vietnam will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to international efforts in addressing climate change issues," emphasized Mohammed Ismaeil Dahlwy.

The Saudi Arabian ambassador stated that the targets of halving ocean plastic waste by 2025, then 75% by 2030, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 demonstrate Vietnam's responsibility in addressing global environmental challenges.

He shared that, in addition to the commitments of the Government and other levels of authority, he has witnessed many efforts by Vietnamese people to raise awareness about pollution and improve the surrounding environment.

“In response to those initiatives, I am very keen to contribute to environmental protection in Vietnam, especially in Hanoi, which has been and will continue to be my home for the years to come,” said Mohammed Ismaeil Dahlwy.

The Saudi Arabian ambassador expressed surprise and admiration for the ideas submitted to the competition. He hoped that the Vietnamese people, especially the youth, would continue that enthusiasm and further spread environmentally friendly lifestyles, ideas, and initiatives.
