Along with efforts to promote and exploit the unique strengths of each locality, in recent years, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh provinces have jointly built linkages, placing themselves within the overall development space of the North Central region to enhance value and form an impressive "cultural journey".
An impressive cultural journey
At the exact moment of the Lunar New Year's Eve of the Year of the Horse 2026, Mr. Vuong Hong Thai from Sen 2 hamlet, along with many people from Kim Lien (Nam Dan), gathered at the Kim Lien National Special Historical Site to offer incense at the Ho Chi Minh Memorial House, expressing their reverence and praying for peace and prosperity in the new year. From the first day of Tet onwards, Kim Lien became a sacred destination for tens of thousands of visitors from Nam Dan, Hung Nguyen, Vinh City (Nghe An), Duc Tho, Huong Son (Ha Tinh)...
In the sacred space of Sen village during the early days of the new year, a long line of devout people creates a beautiful and moving image of the "return to the roots" journey at the beginning of spring. Amidst the gentle spring colors and the spreading fragrance of incense, groups of people solemnly offer incense, expressing their profound gratitude to the beloved leader of the nation.
In the spring of 2026 (Year of the Horse), Kim Lien boasts a magnificent and vibrant appearance adorned with flags and flowers. The historical site's space has been renovated in a dignified and harmonious manner; the roads, reception areas, and festival grounds are clean and beautiful, creating a friendly impression while still maintaining a sense of solemnity.
According to Nguyen Bao Tuan, Director of the Kim Lien National Special Historical Site, the site receives an average of 7,000-10,000 visitors from within and outside the province each day during the Lunar New Year of the Horse, demonstrating the special appeal of this cultural and spiritual destination.
Not only local residents, but thousands of people from all over the country visited the Kim Lien National Special Historical Site (Nghe An province) amidst the spring rain in the early days of the new year. Each person offered fresh flowers and incense with deep affection and gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, and hoped for a peaceful new year and an increasingly prosperous nation.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Van (Vinh Phu ward) shared: “The Kim Lien National Special Historical Site is always the first destination for our whole family every Tet holiday. This is also an opportunity for the family to educate our children about the great contributions of Uncle Ho, so that the children will love their homeland and country even more, and become useful members of society.”
Along with the sacred Kim Lien site, spring excursions in the North Central region are also bustling with activity at many other notable locations, such as Lam Kinh, Ho Dynasty Citadel, Ba Trieu Temple (Thanh Hoa), Huong Tich Pagoda, Dong Loc Crossroads, Hai Thuong Lan Ong Memorial Area (Ha Tinh)... In addition, amusement parks, eco-tourism and spiritual tourism areas are also crowded with visitors such as VinWonders Cua Hoi, Dien Lam eco-tourism area, Eo Gio eco-tourism area, Hoang Muoi Temple, Corn Temple… In the western part of Nghe An province, the atmosphere of welcoming spring is even more vibrant. Hon Mat eco-tourism area (Nghia Loc) with its vibrant flower carpets spanning dozens of hectares and the "Throwing the Ball" game attracts a large number of tourists. Destinations such as Muong Long Eco Garden, Nhat Minh Farmstay, Lam Khang Homestay… become ideal choices for tourists who love nature, enjoy cloud watching, admiring peach and apricot blossoms, and exploring the culture of the H'Mong and Thai ethnic groups in the early days of the new year.
During the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, red flags with yellow stars fluttered in the wind along the country roads of Thanh Hoa province; many families erected New Year's poles decorated with flashing LED lights, illuminating residential areas. This year, the Management Board of Ho Citadel Heritage and key historical sites in Thanh Hoa province continued to recreate the Ceremony of Raising the New Year's Pole and Releasing Fish on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month, attracting a large number of students, teachers, and visitors to experience the ancient tradition and encourage the preservation of traditional beauty in contemporary life.
Mr. Dang Quoc Vu, Head of the Management Board of the Dong Loc Crossroads Historical Site (Ha Tinh province), said that the unit proactively developed a plan and arranged staff to work throughout the Tet holiday to welcome and guide visitors to offer incense and pay respects thoughtfully. The historical site focuses on improving the environment and building miniature landscapes that are both historically significant and solemn, while also reflecting the atmosphere of welcoming the new spring. According to the Nghe An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, from the beginning of spring, tourist areas and attractions have proactively renewed their products, promoted digital transformation, and promoted the image of "Spring in Nghe An" through digital tourism maps and linked tours of "One journey - many destinations". The connection between beach tourism, spiritual tourism, and ecological tourism creates a special attraction, making Nghe An a bustling destination every Tet holiday.
Cooperation in exploiting tourism advantages
The North Central region has a distinct advantage in developing cultural, historical, and spiritual tourism thanks to its diverse system of historical sites, scenic spots, and cultural spaces with rich historical depth, along with many unique traditional festivals, craft villages, and folk beliefs. In recent years, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh provinces have allocated resources from the state budget and national target programs, and mobilized social resources to preserve, restore, and promote the value of key historical sites and typical heritage, linking heritage preservation with sustainable tourism development. The provinces have determined that improving the quality of cultural, historical, and spiritual tourism products must be closely linked to the preservation and promotion of heritage, with the unique identity of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An as the central focus and the visitor experience as the benchmark. Therefore, they have directed relevant units and localities to review and promptly rectify any inappropriate practices; improve the quality of explanations and services; and promote digital transformation in the promotion of historical sites. Promoting the linkage of heritage sites, festivals, and services to create culturally rich tourism itineraries has led to a steady increase in the number of tourists visiting the North Central provinces.
In Thanh Hoa province alone, the period from 2021 to 2025 saw nearly 58.5 million visitors, generating over 129,000 billion VND in tourism revenue. Spring tourism is particularly attractive due to its cultural, historical, and spiritual tourism products, especially during the Lunar New Year and early year festivals. According to the Thanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, during the peak spring season, these destinations receive thousands of visitors daily for incense offerings and sightseeing, accounting for approximately 13% of the total annual tourist arrivals. However, because cultural and spiritual tourists mainly visit for a day and have short stays, revenue from this segment only accounts for about 4.8% of the total annual tourism revenue. In recent years, Thanh Hoa province and other localities have organized more than 100 cultural, sports, and tourism events annually, with about 60% taking place during the Lunar New Year and spring season, meeting the spiritual needs of the people and promoting tourism growth.
In recent times, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh provinces have signed and implemented numerous cooperation programs and agreements to develop tourism, enhance information exchange, share experiences, improve state management capacity, plan product development, and promote tourism. Several collaborative tourism products and programs have proven effective, such as: "Three localities - one destination, many experiences," "Journey through ancient Vietnamese capitals," "Central Vietnam Heritage Route," and "Following in the footsteps of President Ho Chi Minh"...
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province, Dau Thanh Tung, emphasized: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh provinces are focusing on implementing the new phase of the linkage program, coordinating the development of inter-regional heritage and historical tourism products; organizing joint events and stimulating demand during the off-season; standardizing service quality and training human resources; promoting digital communication, and building a professional, synchronized, and sustainable image of the North Central region as a tourist destination.
