Since the morning of November 21st, hundreds of residents in areas recently affected by flooding have been bringing their vehicles out for cleaning, wiping, and attempting to start them, but most vehicles wouldn't start. Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuy Ngau (Ward 3, Quy Nhon Dong commune) said: “As soon as the water receded to ankle level, I rushed to get my motorbike repaired because I was afraid of the crowds. But the shops near my house all refused because they were overloaded. I had to travel about 5 km to find a place that would accept my motorbike, but they said it would take at least two days to finish. Luckily, I got my motorbike back a day earlier, and the repair cost was 500,000 VND.”
A field survey revealed that small motorbike repair shops in flood-affected residential areas are overwhelmed. In many places, motorbikes have to be parked in rows and left overnight with caretakers. Nguyen Trong Kha, the owner of a motorbike repair shop on Tran Thuc Tu Street (Quy Nhon Dong Ward), said: “Even working from 7 am to 10 pm, I can only repair a maximum of 20 motorbikes a day. There are so many damaged vehicles that the shop is always crowded. Finding someone to look after the motorbikes is also very difficult.”
Honda, Yamaha, and VinFast service centers also received hundreds of flooded motorcycles and electric scooters. HEAD Toan Trung is implementing a special support program from November 22nd to 23rd with offers including free oil changes, free labor, a 20% discount on parts, and a 2 million VND bonus when trading in an old vehicle for a new one. This program applies at HEAD Toan Trung 4 (113-115-117 Hung Vuong Street, Quy Nhon Bac Ward) and HEAD Toan Trung Quy Nhon (05 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Quy Nhon Ward).
Mr. Dang Cong Nam, Director of Head Hong Phuoc Co., Ltd. (03-07 Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Quy Nhon Ward), said: “Since November 21st, the company has received 300 flooded vehicles and repaired 100 of them. We provide free labor for oil and air filter changes. Our team of 9 technicians works day and night to repair them as quickly as possible, following proper procedures and transparently disclosing costs, ensuring no hidden fees.”
For many people, a motorbike is both a means of transportation and a livelihood; when the motorbike is unusable, difficulties immediately arise from many sides. Understanding this, many shop owners provide partial or free labor, such as Mr. Nguyen Van Dat's shop (24 Le Trong Tan Street, Quy Nhon Dong Ward) or Mr. Ngo Van Vu's shop (51 To Huu Street, Quy Nhon Ward).
Mr. Vu shared: "More than 100 vehicles are damaged, and I and my staff are working hard to repair them so that people can have a means of transportation again."
Currently, repair centers are overloaded, and many employees are unable to return to work due to the impact of the floods. Mr. Vu Thanh Luan, Director of VinFast Hai Thanh Co., Ltd., said: “We have implemented a program to support electric motorbikes that were flooded. We have received more than 70 vehicles so far, and are repairing them urgently within 2-4 hours each. VinFast is supporting a 30% reduction in spare parts costs and addressing IC failures and electrical short circuits so that customers can have their vehicles back as soon as possible.”
VinFast Hai Thanh has two locations at 591 Hung Vuong (Quy Nhon Bac Ward) and 11 Vo Nguyen Giap (Quy Nhon Ward) to provide quick, proper repair services with full warranty coverage. The company also advises customers not to attempt to start their vehicles after they have been submerged in water.
