On November 3rd, at the 33rd Bach Mai Hospital Scientific Conference, experts and doctors from Vietnam and abroad shared knowledge and updated on modern medical achievements, especially the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnosis and treatment.

At the conference, discussions covered a wide range of key areas such as: intensive care, cardiology, oncology, infectious diseases, nuclear medicine, diagnostic imaging, and smart healthcare management; with a particular focus on advances in stroke treatment in Vietnam.

Associate Professor Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, stated: "New technologies in medicine are creating a turning point in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients, helping to increase accuracy, optimize processes, and improve the overall quality of care for patients. As a leading central general hospital, Bach Mai Hospital has accelerated digital transformation, gradually building a smart hospital model, aiming for a patient-centered healthcare service system. Artificial intelligence, digital medicine, and personalized medicine are creating fundamental changes in medical examination and treatment, from diagnosis and treatment to management and prevention."

Accordingly, in the face of the opportunities and challenges of the digital age, the ideas and solutions of experts are all geared towards more modern and humane criteria, focusing on the patient and using science as the driving force.

In particular, the conference also highlighted the remarkable progress in stroke treatment, contributing to bringing Vietnamese medicine closer to world standards for stroke treatment.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Mai Duy Ton, Director of the Stroke Center (Bach Mai Hospital), the "Code Stroke" procedure for acute stroke management has been standardized according to international standards. A multidisciplinary collaboration model has been developed for treating complex stroke cases, and a strong network of satellite hospitals has been established, along with professional training for many localities nationwide. Currently, the Stroke Center is the first unit in Vietnam to achieve the international "Advanced Stroke Centre" standard recognized by the World Stroke Organization (WSO), based on rigorous criteria regarding process quality, professional competence, and patient treatment outcomes; this marks a milestone affirming Vietnam's position on the regional and international stroke map.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Mai Duy Ton, Vietnam recently had its first case of acute ischemic stroke treated successfully with thrombolysis using the new generation anticoagulant dabigatran, thanks to the specific neutralizing agent Idarucizumab. This success opens up a safer and more effective treatment direction for patients using anticoagulants. This is also an important step forward for Vietnamese medicine in the field of stroke.

Within the framework of the conference, in the session on "Updates in Stroke Management," experts also discussed various topics such as: intravenous thrombolysis, surgical issues in spontaneous cerebral hemorrhage, treatment of subarachnoid hemorrhage due to ruptured cerebral aneurysms, sleep apnea and stroke, etc.
