Dong Nai's long-term goal is to become one of the leading economic , industrial and logistics service centers in Vietnam.
Opening the door to the main engine of the economy
The new Dong Nai province was established on the basis of merging Binh Phuoc province (old) and Dong Nai province (old). It is a locality in the top of the country in terms of population, area and economic scale. The new Dong Nai province has an important position, being the center of the Southern key economic region, an inter-regional gateway, and the largest industrial "capital" of the country.
Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc said that Dong Nai province has just determined that industrial development is still the main driving force of the economy. With its geographical location, convenient transportation, and large land fund, there is still much room for development, especially attracting high-tech, clean technology, and environmentally friendly industries.
The new province with a larger area and more land is the foundation for the new Dong Nai province to continue promoting its strengths in industrial development in the coming time.
Currently, Dong Nai has completed the project of an 8.1 thousand hectare free trade zone near Long Thanh Airport with 4 functional areas including: production; logistics; finance - trade - services; research, innovation and digital economy. |
Up to now, Dong Nai province (old) has been considered the industrial "capital" of the country, the leading locality in the number of industrial parks. The rapid pace of industrial development has created breakthroughs in socio-economic development for the locality. However, this also poses a big challenge: the land fund for industrial development is increasingly lacking. In that context, the addition of a large industrial land fund from Binh Phuoc province is considered an opening for industrial development.
According to Dr. Pham Viet Thuan, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Natural Resources and Environment, after the merger, there will be many opportunities for the new Dong Nai province to develop, because the new province will have more resources. In recent times, the land fund for industrial development in the old Dong Nai province has become increasingly limited. Now, the new province has more land space from Binh Phuoc province, so the orientation of industrial development will be more favorable.
“To develop the economy and society, there must be industrial zones and clusters. Larger land funds make development more favorable,” Dr. Pham Viet Thuan assessed.
Breakthroughs in new fields
According to Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc, the new Dong Nai province will become an important economic corridor axis, a diverse and multi-modal transportation network (air, road, rail, waterway) with Long Thanh International Airport as the international aviation gateway of Vietnam, Phuoc An Port as the country's major seaport center.
With this location, the new Dong Nai will become a major center for the production of goods, services, and logistics of the country. This is also one of the economic sectors that the province is oriented to develop strongly in the coming time.
Along with that, the new Dong Nai province will focus on attracting investment, forming high-class urban, tourism and resort areas. Developing educational complexes and specialized training for the Southeast region. Building innovation centers and information technology zones to create new value chains with higher intellectual content.
In fact, Dong Nai has also started implementing the Project to Convert the Function of Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park into a Commercial Service Urban Area.
In particular, with the "ownership" of Long Thanh Airport, combined with a larger development land fund, new economic sectors such as logistics and urban development will have more favorable conditions to make breakthroughs in development in the coming time.
Dr. Architect Hoang Huu Phe, representative of the consulting consortium of the National Institute of Architecture - Nihon Sekkei, Inc (Japan) - Coninco Construction Technology, Equipment and Inspection Consulting Joint Stock Company (VIAR-NS-Coninco consortium) assessed that with the urban development orientation of Long Thanh Airport to become an Aerotropolis (setting the airport as the center of economic development), taking advantage of connectivity, logistics and industry to create strongly developing urban centers, expanding beyond the airport.
Meanwhile, Professor Vo Xuan Vinh, Director of the Institute of Business Research, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, assessed that the development momentum of a large airport like Long Thanh Airport not only spreads within a province, but also across the region and the whole country. Therefore, with Dong Nai province having a larger area and population, the development momentum from Long Thanh Airport will also spread wider.
“This will create opportunities for the new province to develop more strongly in all economic sectors, especially tourism, trade, services, and logistics. All of these sectors require large development spaces,” said Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh.
