The ship is operated by Hoa Phat Shipping Joint Stock Company, a member of the Group. Compared to the Kamsarmax ship with a capacity of about 80,000 DWT that Hoa Phat is operating, the Momentum ship allows for an increase of nearly 40% in cargo volume per trip. The fleet upgrade brings higher operational efficiency, especially for long-distance international shipping routes and the need to import large volumes of raw materials such as iron ore and coal from markets such as Australia, America, and Inner Asia.
The Momentum is designed to operate on international sea routes and can call at deep-water ports such as Dung Quat, which is one of the main transit points, receiving most of the raw materials such as ore and coal for Hoa Phat's steel plants.
The transition to large-capacity vessels is part of a strategy to develop a more proactive supply chain for raw materials, reducing dependence on outsourced transportation services. In the context of constantly fluctuating international logistics costs, owning a vessel suitable for long-distance shipping routes has become an important factor to ensure stable production operations.
Mr. Doan Quang Thinh, Director of Hoa Phat Shipping Joint Stock Company, said that investing in the Momentum ship is a calculated step based on the actual operational needs of the Group in the coming period. According to him, in addition to increasing transportation capacity, the fleet owned by the company also helps optimize operational efficiency at the port, especially when the volume of goods passing through the Dung Quat complex is increasing.
"We are developing our fleet in a diversified manner. Large ships will serve the import of key raw materials from international markets, while smaller vessels will be responsible for transporting output products on domestic routes. The goal is to be proactive in transporting both raw materials and finished products," said Mr. Thinh.
According to the long-term plan, Hoa Phat's fleet will be developed to about 15 to 20 ships, mainly focusing on large-sized ships, transporting large volumes, serving both internal needs and providing services to domestic and foreign partners.
Hoa Phat aims to become one of the 30 largest steel manufacturers in the world . To realize this goal, the Group focuses on expanding production and developing maritime transport to ensure supply chain safety and effectively control production costs.
