Military Arts Troupe of Military Region 7: Keeping the flame of art alive in contemporary life.

During the arduous years of the nation's history, soldiers going to war, besides their unwavering will, also had dance and song as spiritual baggage to nurture their faith and provide strength on the front lines. It is from this source that today's military cultural performers, alongside their singing, persistently spread the unchanging spiritual values of the revolutionary army within the flow of contemporary life.

A glorious chapter

Following the 1960 Uprising, the revolution in South Vietnam developed strongly, and the people's armed forces grew steadily, leading to the establishment of the South Vietnam Liberation Army. In response to the increasing demand for cultural and artistic enjoyment among soldiers and civilians on the battlefield, the Central Military Commission decided to establish the South Vietnam Liberation Army Performing Arts Troupe.

On December 20, 1962, in the Duong Minh Chau War Zone, Tay Ninh province, the unit was officially established with the mission of composing and performing for soldiers and the people, contributing to boosting the fighting spirit and working together for the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. Many musicians left their mark on the formation and growth of the troupe, such as musician Xuan Hong (the first troupe leader), musician Vu Thanh, choreographer Kim Dieu, People's Artist Xuan Hanh… with works that endure to this day such as: Spring in the War Zone, The Sound of the Pestle in Soc Bom Bo, The Song of Sewing Clothes, Spring in Ho Chi Minh City…

From the makeshift stages on the battlefields of the past to the grand, professional art programs of today, the Military Arts Troupe of Military Region 7 has always been present as a special force – where art is closely intertwined with political tasks. Each performance is not only for enjoyment but also contributes to inspiring faith, fostering willpower, and building strong political resolve for officers and soldiers.

The special art program "The Nation Filled with Joy" was performed by the Military Arts Troupe of Military Region 7.

Sharing about the troupe's journey of over six decades, Lieutenant Colonel, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Xuan Hung, Head of the Military Arts Troupe of Military Region 7, emphasized: “For us, each artistic program is not simply entertainment, but also a duty and responsibility of soldiers on the cultural front. We build programs with the orientation of using culture and arts to propagate and educate political ideology to young officers and soldiers, always innovating in appropriate forms while still maintaining the distinctive and shining qualities of 'Uncle Ho's soldiers' in the Southeast region. Whether in wartime or peacetime, the military arts troupe always carries within itself the mission of using art to encourage spirit, spread faith, and give strength to the soldiers and the people.”

Preserving the flame of tradition

Entering a period of reform and integration, the Military Arts Troupe of Military Region 7 faces new demands: to steadfastly uphold its revolutionary artistic identity while proactively adapting to the diverse and dynamic cultural life of a key socio-economic region in the South. Although the sounds of bombs and bullets have ceased, the cultural and ideological "front" still presents many challenges, requiring the military arts troupe to constantly innovate their creative thinking and enhance their professionalism.

Lieutenant Colonel and Meritorious Artist Nguyen Xuan Hung affirmed: "Innovation without abandoning our roots, modernity while preserving the essence of tradition - that is the guiding principle in the troupe's creations and performances."

As a professional art unit, the Military Arts Troupe of Military Region 7 focuses on building artistic programs with profound ideological depth and rich aesthetics, vividly reflecting the image of soldiers in the new era; participating in major cultural and artistic events of the army and localities; contributing to the preservation and honoring of traditional revolutionary music; attracting the younger generation closer to and more appreciating revolutionary music; bringing art to training units, border areas, islands, industrial zones, residential areas, and the people in the region, contributing to strengthening the people's support.

In this new context, the mission of the military performing arts troupe is not limited to performing for service, but also contributes to building the cultural and spiritual life, fostering pride, ideals, and unwavering political resolve among officers and soldiers. This is also how the soldiers of the Military Performing Arts Troupe of Military Region 7 today continue to write the silent epic, worthy of the glorious tradition of a heroic unit.

From 2012 to the present, through four national and military professional arts festivals, the Military Arts Troupe of Military Region 7 has won 12 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and many other prestigious certificates and awards.
