The 2025/2026 Serie A season concluded with one of the most memorable twists in recent years. It wasn't AC Milan or Juventus who secured the final Champions League spot for next season; it was Como FC, a small club managed by Cesc Fabregas.
Before the final round of matches, this 'tiny' team was only in 5th place in the standings with 68 points, 2 points behind AC Milan and AS Roma.
This means that Fabregas's team not only has to beat Cremonese in the final match but also has to hope their rivals above them slip up.

In this extremely critical situation, Como FC did their part in the most convincing way possible.
At the Cremonese stadium on the morning of May 25th ( Hanoi time), Como FC won 4-1 thanks to a brace from Lucas Da Cunha, along with goals from Jesus Rodriguez and Anastasios Douvikas. Their opponents also received three red cards, two of which were for players on the bench.
The miracle was complete when AC Milan squandered their own destiny at San Siro. Despite the Rossoneri opening the scoring in the second minute through Alexis Saelemaekers, they subsequently lost 1-2 to Cagliari. From holding a significant advantage, AC Milan lost their Champions League qualification spot at the very last moment.
Thanks to those two contrasting results, Como FC rose to fourth place with 71 points, just one point ahead of AC Milan. That single point was enough to make history, as Como FC qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history.
What makes this achievement even greater is Como FC's starting point. They only returned to Serie A in the 2024-2025 season after a 21-year absence. From a newly promoted team, Como FC went straight to Europe's most prestigious competition in just two seasons, a true "breakthrough," but it wasn't simply due to luck.
Young manager Fabregas thus became the central figure in Como FC's resurgence. Once a talented midfielder on the pitch, he is proving he can also make a difference in the coaching role, transforming a small club into the biggest phenomenon in Serie A.

Next season, Serie A will have four representatives in the Champions League: Inter Milan, Napoli, AS Roma, and Como FC.
Juventus and AC Milan will drop down to the Europa League, while Atalanta will play in the Conference League.
Conversely, the three teams relegated were Cremonese, Verona, and Pisa; while Venezia, Frosinone, and the winner of the Monza/Catanzaro play-off final will play in Serie A next season.
