The Spanish football team collapsed after 77 years.

The darkest chapter in Real Zaragoza's history continues as they are relegated to the Spanish Third Division, ending their 77-year presence in the country's professional football system.

On the night of May 24th, a 1-1 draw against Las Palmas in the final round of the Spanish Segunda Division marked the end of Aragon's hopes of avoiding relegation.

After 41 rounds this season, Zaragoza only managed 36 points with 8 wins and 21 losses. They were in the relegation zone for 39 rounds, a performance that clearly reflects a chaotic season both in terms of performance and management.

For Zaragoza fans, this wasn't just a match, but a moment that confirmed the fall of a former icon of Spanish football. Real Zaragoza was once a formidable force with 6 Copa del Rey titles, one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, one Spanish Super Cup, and 58 seasons in La Liga. However, all of that is now just a distant memory.

The team scored a mere 35 goals in 41 matches, making them the worst attacking team in the league. In 10 months, Zaragoza changed 4 coaches, 2 sporting directors, and used 38 different players.

Despite showing signs of revival in March with 3 wins in 4 matches after changing coaches and sporting directors, Zaragoza quickly returned to a spiral of crisis. In the final two months of the season, they only managed to gain 3 points with 3 draws and 6 defeats.

Following confirmation of relegation, Zaragoza issued an apology to its fans. The club admitted to "a sporting failure" and announced it was open to businesspeople and Aragonese supporters to participate in the reconstruction project.

The tragedy is made even more bitter by the fact that the Gran Canaria stadium is the place where Zaragoza suffered their last major defeat. It was here in 2015 that they lost their chance to return to La Liga after a playoff loss to Las Palmas.

Not only is Zaragoza facing a professional crisis, but it's also overshadowed by scandal. Goalkeeper Esteban Andrada received a 13-match suspension after attacking a Huesca player during a crucial derby match earlier in the season.

Now, Real Zaragoza must start again from the Primera RFEF, far removed from professional football and the legendary La Romareda stadium, which is being demolished to make way for a new one.

For the team's fans, the relegation to the third division was not just a sporting failure, but also the shattering of pride that had lasted for more than three-quarters of a century.
