Last July, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team defeated Indonesia 2-0 in the final of the World Championship, with scores of 21-15 and 21-12 in each set.
That victory helped Vietnam successfully defend the championship title won in 2022, making them a top contender for the gold medal in the women's four-person sepak takraw event at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou (China).
On the morning of October 3rd, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team once again faced their "familiar opponent" Indonesia in the final qualifying match to determine the winner of Group A. It's worth noting that both teams had already secured their places in the semi-finals after victories against Myanmar and Japan respectively.

This time the match result was no longer a stalemate, as we won but with a score of 2-1, the scores in each set were very close at 21-19, 19-21 and 21-19 respectively.
Coach Tran Thi Vui showed great respect for her opponent, who had previously reached the final of the World Championship: "Every match is different, previous results are only for reference and cannot be used to compare and evaluate the upcoming ASIAD 19 final."
As in the match on October 3rd, both teams had already qualified for the knockout stage the day before, so the match only served to determine the top spot in Group A.
In reality, neither team played to their strengths. The Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team fielded their strongest starting lineup, but failed to execute their tactics to the best of their ability.

The Indonesian team also fielded a strong squad but didn't play to their full potential. This shows that this opponent has made significant progress and has formidable strategies to change the results of their two previous defeats."
Coach Tran Thi Vui continued: "None of the teams preparing for ASIAD 19 are simple. On October 3rd, our opponents didn't field their full squad, clearly intending to 'hide their tactics' that we couldn't foresee. We can't be complacent."
We have to wait for them to come into the match and make their moves before we can figure out a counter-strategy. Four-a-side sepak takraw is very tactical and complex. But the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team will be determined to win and bring glory to the nation."
