'The Vietnamese women's team has many important tasks…'

On May 9, 2024, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and coach Mai Duc Chung reached a consensus and agreed to sign a contract to become the head coach of the Vietnam women's football team in a contract with a term from May 9, 2024 to December 31, 2025.

VFF said: "After the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 with the 4th consecutive gold medal with the Vietnamese women's football team, coach Mai Duc Chung decided to temporarily stop this job to spend time with his family.

After a period of rest, coach Mai Duc Chung has decided to return to women's football.

During his time as head coach of the Vietnamese women's football team, Mr. Mai Duc Chung and his students won 6/8 SEA Games gold medals and especially brought the women's team to the 2023 World Cup finals.

Even in difficult circumstances such as when the team competed in the Asian Women's Finals, with almost all of the team's roster affected by Covid-19, the coach and his players still made efforts to overcome to win tickets to the 2023 World Cup Finals.

The achievements that coach Mai Duc Chung has made with Vietnamese football in general and women's football in particular are very impressive."

Sharing his thoughts on returning to lead the Vietnamese women's team, coach Mai Duc Chung thanked the attention, encouragement, and especially the trust of the Executive Committee and the National Coaching Council in him.

Regarding the upcoming activities of the Vietnamese women's team, coach Mai Duc Chung said: "This year, the team will not participate in any international tournaments. However, the team will still have a training session abroad in July or August, after which the players will return to compete in domestic tournaments, as well as the Ho Chi Minh City team will participate in the Asian Women's C1 tournament. This is the premise for us to have good preparation for important goals that will take place in 2025, including the Southeast Asian Championship, the 33rd SEA Games in 2025, the Asian Cup women's qualifiers... The coaching staff and I will concentrate to complete the task well."
