The tomb and temple of Nguyen Than (Cam Nhượng, Cam Xuyen, Ha Tinh ) is a place of worship for Admiral Nguyen Than, who made great contributions to the Trinh-Nguyen civil war.
On the morning of January 11th, the People's Committee of Cam Nhuong commune (Cam Xuyen district) held a ceremony to receive the provincial-level certificate recognizing the tomb and temple of Nguyen Than as a historical and cultural relic. Leaders from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh province and Cam Xuyen district also attended. |
Leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh province presented the provincial-level historical and cultural relic ranking certificate for the tomb and temple of Nguyen Than to the local authorities.
The tomb and temple of Nguyen Than is the burial place and shrine of Admiral Nguyen Than (in Tan Hai village, Cam Nhuong commune, Cam Xuyen district). Admiral Nguyen Than was from Phu Thuong village, Dau Chu commune (now Ky Phu commune, Ky Anh district). He lived from approximately 1560-1602, during the Le Trung Hung period. Currently, old documents are no longer available, so the exact year of his birth, year of his death, and the reign of the king who first appointed him to that position cannot be determined.
According to oral tradition, during the early stages of the Trinh-Nguyen War (17th century), Nguyen Than was tasked with defending the coastal region from Deo Ngang Pass in the Hoanh Son mountain range (Ky Anh town) to Nam Gioi mountain (Thach Ha district). He commanded the suppression of Nguyen Lords' invasions, maintaining stability in the coastal area and helping the people to live and work peacefully.
For his contributions, after King Le Than Tong ascended the throne for the second time (Khanh Duc era, 1649-1652), Nguyen Than was posthumously awarded the title of Admiral and the rank of Phu Duong Marquis. After his death, successive dynasties continued to bestow titles upon him. His highest position, rank, and honorary title was: "Outstanding and Virtuous, Virtuous and Valiant, Valiant and Diligent, Meritorious Official, Specially Promoted, Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Supreme General, Divine Warrior of the Four Guards"; he was also posthumously awarded the title of Left Admiral, the rank of Phu Duong Marquis, and the honorary title of Loyal and Wise Grand Minister.

With strategic vision, he chose Nhuong Ban village (now Cam Nhuong commune) to establish his headquarters as a command center, ensuring the safety of the territorial waters from the Nam Gioi mountain range to Hoanh Son. Besides military affairs, he also helped the people of Nhuong Ban organize production and develop the economy .
To commemorate his contributions, the government and people of Cam Nhuong commune built a mausoleum and a temple. Due to historical events and wars, the Thuong Phu temple was destroyed. However, the government and people contributed funds to restore the tomb and temple of Admiral Thuong Phu Nguyen Than. This is an important historical site in the cultural and spiritual life of the people of Cam Nhuong commune.
Recognizing the contributions of Admiral Nguyen Than and the historical and cultural values of the site, on January 13, 2023, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 124/QD-UBND classifying the tomb and temple of Nguyen Than in Cam Nhuong commune (Cam Xuyen district) as a provincial-level historical and cultural relic.
On this occasion, the local authorities also mobilized benevolent individuals to donate 50 Tet gift packages to disadvantaged families in the area.
